Icon3 Car stalled & died out in a flood.

Hey guys, I have an issue concerning my daily driven 4 door civic sedan (1996). The engine is a D16Y8, and bone stock to the core!! No mods, nothing. Just daily beater, well anyways, long story short girlfriend took the car drove in the floods in socal and car stalled & died. The car wouldn't start, and we had it towed home. As soon as we got it in my driveway, we tried starting it up one last time, and a LOT of water shot out of the tailpipe. So now the engine turns over, starts up just fine, but struggles to accelerate & go into motion when warm. When the engine is cold, the car runs fine, I can accelerate smash, do whatever. As soon as the engine gets warm, the car bogs out & dies around 1 - 2k rpm. I changed the TPS sensor, apparently my air filter was wet. Not too bad though, (stock intake). Changed the coil plugs, as well and sparks just fine.

The engine gets loud sometimes when accelerating sounding like almost there is no muffler. The car runs fine if I'm going around 5 MPH, but if I try to go past it the car will shut off. Oh, and the car is automatic! I'll try to get a video up soon.

*Leave any unnecssary wierd comments out =P!

well id say that its possible rust formed in the cylenders but that will ware away after it runs a while. Im sure electronic problems will start to pop up because when electronics get wet they corrode. it depends on how deep the car got in whater if it flooded the passenger compartment to its possible the ecu got wet , if thats the case you would have to replace it. I would unplug all the plugs and make sure corrosion isnt building on them. the plugs are meant to riesist water some what but they dont like being submerged.

Changed the coils plugs, and checked the ECU. No water got inside the car, we were only in the water for a bit. Pulled out as soon as the car idle dropped, we wouldve gotten out sooner but some old douchebag refused to let my gf in the other lane. (She isnt an aggressive driver -___-) No water got inside the car either.

Nope. Plugged it in my brand new MODIS Snap-On scanner! Came out clean.

water getting into the fuel lines? how would i check, that could be true..some water may have gotten into the car through the intake. anyone have a guide to flush out the car completely? i still got like half a tank left still in my car. it's wierd cus the car only shuts off when it gets warm. it happened last week.

possible hydro lock for a moment. you prob have water in your plugs in your cylinders?! i know that's what happened to my bro inlaws crx one year. he drove into a supposedly small puddle but he sucked in a **** load of water. luckily it was close to home, drove slowly after struggling to start it up. got home, pulled his plug wires, found water in his plugs. sucked that **** out and car drove fine for a while then it eventually blew. gl man. let us know what you find out

this is what I did when I was coming home from a night shift job in my old EK and rammed a massive small lake(puddle) with my AEM cold air.

pulled the car home, drained out all fluids, pulled spark plugs, grabbed a turkey baster, turned car over until it shot out most of the water and used a turkey baster to suck the rest of it out lol. refilled with oil. can ran for 3 more years after then until the D15 took a dump on the interstate.

take your plugs out and turn the car over for a bit, see if that helps
