Default Car over heating when I do a pull

I have a 95 civic with a zc bottom end and a y8 head. Today while doing a pull I noticed the car over heated so I turned it off. Parked on the side of the road I smelt coolant so popped my hood and coolant had exploded out the overflow. First thing that came to mind is blown head gasket but I got no oil in coolant and no coolant in oil. Just put a new oem rad cap and new thermostat. Need help! What I'm thinking is the head gasket is leaking a tiny bit.
