98 civic ex radio issue
Im not sure if this has been discussed and I didnt see it in the FAQs. But here's my problem... When I turn the key to the I position I can pick up radio stations fairly well. As soon as I turn the key to the II or start the car. All I get is static. I've tried this with the OE stereo, Aftermarket stereo, and OE and aftermarket together with harness. Yes the antenna is plugged in. Could it be a bad antenna or some sort of wiring issue? Like I've said I've tried it with the factory stereo and still get static. So im stumped.

Make sure your screws that hold in the antenna to the roof are tight and have a clean Paint/rust free surface, I believe that is where it is grounded.

Re: 98 civic ex radio issue
I checked into the screws. all seemed okay. I get almost perfect reception with the key to I and almost no reception, a lot of static, with the key to the II position.
Update: All fuses checked out okay. Could it be the wiring? I have two ground wires. One from the head unit, and one from the adapter used to keep the factory stereo behind the dash. These go together or to two separate grounding locations? Ive tried both. Still get the static with the key to II.

I havent checked but im pretty sure. The radio signal fades to static with the snap of your fingers. (turning key to II) Could an aftermarket ignition source do this? i.e plug wires, ignition and coil?

No, nothing in your engine bay. This is a tricky problem. Your should turn your key to II and pull your head unit as far away out as possible without disconnecting any wires and see if the interferance changes at all. Turn your a/c / heater / fan off too all the way. That's where i'd start.
