you're going to swap heads over valve cover studs?

Your vtec-e won't work anymore, which is the whole reason for the HX, fuel economy. I had this happen before as well, I got it fixed by a great technician who used heli-coils or it could've been time-serts, I know it was Honda uses.. into the bad threads and it is holding very well!

Helicoils or drill it and tap it for a larger bolt. It'll cost less and be less work than a mini-me.

No they the bolts that go for the valve cover well it's actually the head that got stripped not the bolt so my valve cover doesn't torque down tight 2 of the bolt don't grip the head I pulled them out and the treads are good but the head is trash now

Even if I run the Y8 head on the EX model it has VTec or I could swap with a z6 head it has vtec

If I do a mini me all I have to do is swap ecu stock Y8 ecu swap head with a Y8 then dizzy and cap and that should be it cause I will have to replace the gaskets anyways or am I missing something ?

the whole point of the hx is to keep it eco and good mpg. I foresee you simply trying to do a couple things for more horsepower and running into a major headache. even if you swap in the head you will still have the hx transmission which has much different gear ratio then the ex model. so you would probably want to change your final drive or get an ex tranny. i would personally make an eco car and not dog it out. those cars are getting and rarer and eco ppl are looking for those hx models in decent shape. preferably without leaky pistons.....

and someone correct me if im wrong but i was aware the intake manifold isnt the same as the hx so you will probably be restricting airflow which could run the car rich. at least something like that happened on my 91 daily driver

You are entirely overthinking this. Just use timecerts or helicoils, as multiple other people have already told you.

Yea I think you might be right as well as everyone else and fix the head with helicoils unless I can find a new or used y5 head for cheap

A y8 swap will require you to also require the 5wire o2 sensor to a 4 wire by depinning the wires by the ecu as well.

I'd just fix the threads in the head. I'm working on 40mpg in my 98hx. Thats the beauty of an HX.

x4 on using helicoils, that is a proper repair and honestly valve cover bolts require a low torque spec so there isn't much stress on those threads anyway

A shop mechanic did all this damage? Why not return to them and request repairs or payment for repairs?
