Default question about putting 87octane gas on an SI.

Here in GA have no premium gas.

I went to gas station this morning, they said they will not going to have premium gas for awhile. They told me to put 87octane and buy octane booster.

Would it be okay to put 87octane and put octane booster on an SI?

I live in Charlotte NC and I am having the same problem. I was able to luck up and fill my tank with Premium this past Saturday but I'll need it soon. If you use Lucas Octane Booster it raises your rating from 87 to 90. Here a a couple links about the Lucas Booster.

http://volvospeed.com/Reviews/....html

http://lucasoil.hodgsoncorp.co...r.htm (This one states that 87 turns into 90)

I would use 2 bottles if you wanted to make 93 out of 87. But I don't think it would hurt anything using 87 on the motor as long as you keep your foot out of it. The computer can tune the car to run on 87 but will prob get horrible gas mileage and low performance.

Hope this helps.

Do they have 89 octane available anywhere. If so i'd do that and octane booster.
If not then I don't see a big problem with it as long as you raise your octane level enough. Maybe you'll need 2 bottles of octane booster.
Not a great situation to be in though; to you.

If GA is anything like NC, 89 and 93 are about NON existing.

Rent a truck. Drive to whatever state you can get 93. Purchase and fill up about 40 Red containers with the gasoline. Drive back. Build a shed. Place containers in shed. Enjoy.

the car will run fine on 87. all cars built nowadays are required to run on 87 no matter what is suggested by the manufacturer for optimum performance.

Our car calls for Premium and no matter what the computer does our cars have 11.1 Compression. 87 and 11.1 compression don't mix that well, especially if you can't keep your foot out of it. The car will run but it won't run fine.

Also note the "PREMIUM UNLEADED FUEL ONLY" Sticker that's plastered inside our gas door.

your car will not break and you will not do any damage by running a tank of 87. it will run fine.

i actually have run a few tanks of regular in my si.

when you put 87octane on Si, did u feel the difference gas mileage?

When I had 07 Altima, I put 93octane, my mileage dropped down little bit.
I only drive 100% local, usually Altima showed me 26mpg, but after I put 93octane, it showed me about 23~24mpg.

And I tried to put 93octane on my 05 Accord, mpg dropped down little bit.

Also, my friend have 06 Mini S, he put 87octane and mpg gets worst.

Again, automakers design the engines to run on 87 octane in the event that premium is unavailable. This is a fact.

Conversely 87 put in vehicle designed for premium usually results in lower fuel economy and as the guy mentioned above putting premium in a vehicle designed for regular will definitely get poor fuel economy.

I meant to add that for the best power and the best fuel economy you want to use the lowest octane fuel that you can that won't cause detonation or preignition.

You are sadly mistaken if in your mind using a higher octane fuel will keep your engine cleaner, or get you better fuel economy and especially more power. You WILL experience increased carbon build up, you WILL experience a decrease in fuel economy, you definately experience a decrease in power and you will shorten the life span of emission devices.

If you want to keep your enegine clean keep on top of maintenance, stick with a premium brand of fuel like Chevron, Shell, Amoco BP. Dump a bottle Techron or V-Power Concentrate from Wal-Mart every time you change your oil.
