2002 Honda Civic EX A/C Problem
Hello, Honda-Tech Members
I need help on my on my 2002 Honda Civic Ex . I have some A/c Problems , The A/C compressor doesnt kick on all the time .\, But when it does the A/c is ice cold. The parts that have been changed is the A/C compressor ,Pressure Switch, any the relay.
Thanks Ray

Re: 2002 Honda Civic EX A/C Problem
This gives no info whatsoever.
Did you vac it or did the mech? How much exactly was vacuumed out and how much exactly was put back in? Did you vac it down before you cracked the system open? Or did you just crack it open and don't know exactly how much goes back in? Did you calculate the amount still in the parts that were removed? Did you plug everything up as soon as it was detached so moisture won't get in the system?
If you let moisture in the system the drier becomes saturated and won't work and the water gets in the compressor and ruins the compressor (liquid doesn't compress). The same with too much coolant. If it doesn't have enough coolant it will try to cycle but, won't have enough to cycle all the time.
The A/C sometimes working is a classic symptom of not enough coolant. I can't be an clearer than that.

Re: 2002 Honda Civic EX A/C Problem
The problem is not with the freon .The compressor doesnt come on all the time .when the compressor is running the a/c is cold . Do you think the ECU is not giving the compressor the ground or power?

Re: 2002 Honda Civic EX A/C Problem
If there's not enough pressure in the system the compressor will not kick on, so it COULD be a freon issue.

If by that you mean you JUMPED the pressure switch then I would tell you take the compressor back and get another one 'cause the one you have is bad.

Re: 2002 Honda Civic EX A/C Problem
On second thought, you may have a control problem. Are you getting voltage to the switch?
Check for A/C-heater DTCs (I have found it's easier to do this from the passenger seat):
1. Make sure the ignition and fan switch off.
2. Hold the recirc and rear defogger buttons down.
3. While holding those buttons down, turn the ignition to ON(II), then release both buttons. The recirc and defogger indicators come on. The recirc indicator goes off 2 seconds later and the A/C indicator starts, then the diagnostic comes on. About 10 seconds later the diagnostic ends and the A/C indicator goes off.
-If any trouble is found, the recirc indicator blinks the DTC to indicate a faulty circuit or component.
Sorry about the fuzzy pic, phone cam. And sorry abut the upside-down pic, can't get it to turn right-side up.
Post any DTCs you get and we'll try to help.
