2004 Accord 2.4L Manual Trans needs Starter Motor
I went to start up my car this morning on the first really cold day of the year and my starter made some grinding sounds while turning the engine over. After turning the car off and trying it again it did it some more. It still started the car, but I am assuming it needs to be replaced since its the original with 170k miles on it.
I'm having trouble determining if the starter motor for a MANUAL is different than the starter motor for an AUTOMATIC, at least in 2004. I searched a lot and found one reference to a different year model using a different starter for a manual. All the starters I see on ebay and amazon don't specify the transmission type.
Does anyone know anything about this?

I think on these, too lazy to look, the intake has to come off to get to the starter.
It could be that the starter bendix is "sticking a bit in the cold.....pull the starter, clean the bendix, fresh lube on it and then re-install......see what you have from there. Also, still going on memory....watch out for the knock sensor, too many times it will get "hit" by the starter or something during the process, you'd then have to replace that as well
