Default JDM H22 pass smog?

I have a 1993 Honda Accord LX USDM, I took out the factory F22 motor and put a JDM H22 motor, no modifications to the motor and I live here in Southern California, Los Angeles County. I have a smog check due by Mid February. The motor is also 1993, its an automatic transmission. Has headers and catalytic converter that was from a prelude (h22) and is connected to my stock Accord exhaust.

I believe you have to get the swap BAR'd and REF'd and they will check OBD systems but they match, youll probably fail for the header, unless it is 50 state approved.

I don't think that matters as long as all sensors work, and emissions are within spec, and it's a motor from another car, etc. I'm willing to say I could be wrong though as I don't live in Cali

if the smog tech guy doesn't care about what motor, then you'll pass it easily since JDM motor emission are cleaner than USDM. But if your tech wont do the smog and ask you to get ref b4 he do it, then go get the motor ref. I got my car ref and mine h22a motor have stock prelude header and accord cat. The only problem I have is getting all the emission parts together that same as the USDM spec.

Aren't Japanese emissions standards less than that of US?

I thought Japan has very strict law on emission thats why they replace their motor often. I might be wrong on that but for my motor, the first time i went to get smog, the measure level was less than the avg level until they make me put all the smog craps like the usdm version has so yeah.

JDM Motors can pass smog!!!!

I have a 90 HB with JDM B18C motor here is my BAR sticker

This is what you have to do, if you car is older than the motor you installed then you are good to go.

Since your car is a 93 and the H22 motor is probably a 1995 and up motor you need to set your car up as a 95 prelude emissions, this will include 4 wire OBD sensor, Evap system, Charcoal canister, all the proper vacuum lines, ECU needs to be a non chipped or if chipped make sure running stock map and if it i capable of datalogging make sure none of the wires are hanging out of the ecu, OBD1 Dizzy, OBD1 injectors, proper header, intake manifold, it has been debatable that OBD0 to OBD1 harness will pass Bar, i didn't take any chances so I wired it up OBD1.

Just grab a helms for a 95 prelude and lookup the emissions on it, make your accord a mirror image of it and you should be legit :-)

After you are done sourcing all the parts, then you need to schedule a Ref appointment with any of the California BAR referees pay a $35 dollar testing fee (good for 2 tests) and another 8 for Sticker if you pass.

Let me know if you have any other questions, i will be more than happy to assist you.

Good luck!

I'd take it to a hole in the wall place, they might turn a blind eye at the motor swap if everything else else is in place...you better have a catalytic converter and so on.

If you got state ref'd, you are screwed unless you can get it BAR'd.

BTW,

You can go to the DMV and ask for an extension on your smog since you are looking to update your engine.

Sometime it's just easier to pay for a "hook-up". I'd pay before I start swapping out all kinds of stuff again.

Again, just my opinion.

yes this is true, since i have a tendency to getting pulled over for chicken **** issue by the cops, each time asking to pop my hood, i went with the Bar solution since i can tell the cop eat **** when he trys to right me a ticket for emission.

Btw, a cop almost gave me all kinds of **** when he started to right me a ticket and then I showed him the Bar sticker :-)
