Default 05 accord tranny problem

To start off with I am helping a friend track down a transmission for his car, its an 05 accord 5sp, its the v6. What other years trans will bolt up on this engine(J30 I believe)? I am know its only going to be the models that had the v6 but I am trying to save him a bit of money so looking for what else we can get other than the 05 trans, being that they are hard to find and expensive. I know the accords came with v6's even back to 98, I believe. So could we use an trans from an older car?
This is the first time dealing with the honda v6's, so learning all the engine and trans types.

Don't even think you could get a manual trans for the 6th gen V6 engine. I could be wrong. You might have to go with 7th gen, 03 & up.

first off

a V6 accord came with a manual 6 speed in the coupe only until this year when the sedan got it.

If it is an 05, it is still under warranty so go deal with it that way (unless you managed to drive more than 36K in one year)

no no, this isn't my car. I agreed he made a bad choice, but trying to help him out here. He bought a reconstructed 05 accord, I would run the other way but just my opinion and you know the saying. The shops are quoting 4k to put a new one, and I have done quite a few tranny swaps on B's and h22's but never on a v6. Nor have I ever done work on them. I have a friend who has, so I am trying to help him find a tranny that isn't 2k+.

thanks

If you're talking about the V6s not having a 5spd tranny between 98-02 then you're correct. The I4's did come in 5spd.

Oh wow, in that case I say put the trans in it and while he is at it, make sure that the rest of the car is inspected. How much did your boy pay for that car?

I bought a salvage titled accord (the 94) and now the car has 80+K on it after it was rebuilt so depending upon the price and milage on it, it may turn out to be a good value for him/her, I have had to put very little money into the car (about $2K total in 4 years for maint and required things like brakes and tires)

if you're looking for parts at salvage yards, go to car-parts.com, I've been able to find 04 5spd trannys for 450 bucks shipped to my door.

Thanks I will check out that site.

My boy got RIPPED(my opinion), I talked to him about it but he just got back from iraq and the money was burring a hole in his pocket. I guess the car was inspected and passed but buying a reconstructed car could be like buying pandora's box. You know there had to be a lot of damage to total a 4 month old car. He payed 15k which if it was reconstructed correctly would be a deal but this things is full of head aches, it has been one thing after another.
One more question, could we just downgrade the thing and drop in a 5speed from the later models? He is planning to fix it and sell it, so whatever gets this thing going again for the cheapest would be best.
