Would a resonator inline on 3" hurt performance.. if so how bad?
As topic states..
I am looking at my 3" from here...

To the ppl w/ 3" setup.. how would you describe the sound.
I am shooting for a somewhat "quiet" 3" exhaust.. Would you run a resonator [offered in 14",18" and 22" lengths] if so what length.

I've heard that some resonators are "louvered", and these would impede the exhaust flow, but most are straight through and have no effect. They do add weight to the exhaust system, but not much. They help keep the exhaust quiet, but you are not going to find a very quiet 3" system with a straight through muffler.

i picked up a 3" from kteller on his group buy a while back
single resonator, resonated muffler and cat...nice and deep, no "ear peircing ricer" exhaust note...i'd say its worth it not to get hassled over, you'd lose a couple horses at most, who cares, just turn up the boost another pound or 10

Q-Tip: What length resonator did you get? I am undecided on the 18" or 22".

I run a carsound 3" cat, a 18" dynomax straight thru design resonator, and a 3" straight thru magnaflow muffler on my b18b and it sounds pretty damn nice if you ask me. No raspyness, no farting, no gay *** rice burner sound at all. Its straight up deep toned. Of course its a bit resonant and you can hear it from pretty far, but thats because its like bass, it travels......
I'm very happy with my setup, I highly doubt its even possible to quiet it down anymore without impeding flow.

Get the largest one that will fit. Or two if possible. The system for my ITR has two resonators; one up close to the cat and another back beside the fuel tank. I'm in the process of replacing the cat with another resonator. I'd like to use a high flow cat, but one would cost $100.00 to $150.00 more; not flow as well; and probably last less than 2 years.

I had a muffler shop install a resonator for me on my 2.25 inch exhaust system, and it was just as loud. It does change the sound a little (cuts out some of the higher pitch noise) but it didn't reduce the noisy by much.
On the other hand, no performance loss.
