i've had my car boosted for a little over 2 months, it is a d16z6 with vitaras and eagle rods, and a go-autoworks turbo kit. after my car has warmed up and i put it in neutral to stop at a light or coast down a hill or whatever, the oil pressure gauges reads 0. so is my oil breaking down and getting too thin? i'm using castrol 5w30 gtx.

What does the pressure go to once you get back on the throttle? This could be a sign of a faulty oil pump. I had this happen to me recently on my d16 build. I ended up pulling the motor and doing a rebuild with a new oem oil pump. Be careful.

well when i first start it up in the morning it goes to 80-90 psi, if i'm cruising around 2500 rpm its around 30-40 psi

Keep a very close eye on it. I use Rotella T but Im considering switching to Brad Penn oil. What oil pump and bearings are you using?

stock oil pump, i probably should have changed it when i built the motor but my dad checked it out and said it was fine. also if i just lightly put pressure on the gas pedal to make the engine rev a 2-300 rpm higher the gauge will come up to about 5-10 psi

oil pressure should never drop to 0 (unless your oil pressure gauge is wrong)....replace the pump before you end up causing damage.

even if you were using water, your oil pressure wouldnt be zero, you have a problem

no chance the gauge is just wrong i guess? before i put the turbo and everything in in August i put the motor in in November 2009 after i finished building it, and i've been driving it ever since and haven't had a problem

Take an air hose, regulate the pressure and spray it into the oil pressure line to see if he gauge reads the same as the regulated air being put into it. Or try a different gauge

one more thing i forgot to mention, i installed the oil pressure sender that came with the gauge, are those usually ok or are they not too accurate? the brand is glow shift btw

What did you do to the car just before the problem started to occur? Have you had the gauge in the car since day one? How is the oil level? Lots of stuff to check. I wouldn't drive the car around though until the problem is solved. It doesn't take much to screw up the bearing or cylinders.

the gauge went in the car at the same time as the turbo which was 2 months ago. as far as i can remember its gone to zero since then. i check the oil often and is stays pretty much the same, i do have a small leak but it is a really slow drip from the oil return coming off the turbo. i checked it today and it was in the middle of the 2 dots on the dipstick.

is your stock oil pressure still hooked up? if hte oil light isnt on then its your gauge

this cheap gauges has a lot of name brands, but they mostly inaccurate.

no it isn't, but that is a good idea. i'll hook up the wires to this unit and see if the light comes on

I use the GlowShift digital gauge.. I didnt like the look of the mechanical ones.. i havent had any issue with it. The pressure sender hooks right on the tee and 1 lead wire to the gauge. those dumb fish tank hoses they want you to use on the mechanical gauge are junk.

I have the same guage on my ls-t and it does the same thing. My stock sending unit is hooked up and the light doesn't come on so I don't worry about it. It only does it after the oil is good and warm though. I have a oem oil cooler setup I'm going to try and see if it helps the problem.
