Default Lil knock gauge

Anyone have experience on this knock meter? i just bought one but i donīt feel comfortable with the knock readings on my D16 civic turbo. Im tuned to 16 degrees total timing at 11psi and 11.1 afr on wot and it showns heavy knock at 7k, maybe engine noise. Knock sensor mounted in front of engine the red spot.

My settings are Frequency 7.63 and .267 gain, 4cilynder

That's new to me, and I've looked high and low for a hobbyist-friendly box. Would like to know more about it.

Does your block not have a spot on the back for a knock sensor? How have you mounted yours?

A couple of issues I see...

- I would try to get the sensor somewhere more centrally located and away from the front (timing belt area) of the engine. There is a lot more mechanical noise where you have it mounted. The factory position is ideal obviously, but if you don't have it I would try to get something near there if possible.
- You didn't state what kind of sensor you're using or how you've mounted it. I think I see a Bosch type in your picture, it needs to be mounted very flat on the block and torqued to 114in-lbs. Correct torque is absolutely critical with this type of sensor, overdoing it will distort the sensor and change its response. The Toyota mounting stud is a handy item for $3 if you haven't discovered that yet.

Beyond that, the box you are using has a headphone jack. Have you confirmed that you hear knock when the sensor is registering it?

Mayor issue here is the sensor mounting hole is 12mm and hondas block uses 14mm bolts, (only engine head uses 12mm bolts and studs) so i make a weird 14mm to 12mm adapter to mount knock sensor upper posible to the block, i believe the red spot was the best spot to mount the sensor in non vtec sohc and dohc engines. Also im going to check that bolt torque spec you mention.

I forgot to use headphones on my first attempt to hear knock, but next time im going to use it to try to hear some pinging and compare readings.

Here is my invention XD

Cool. Definitely look into the Toyota stud, it makes life very easy for a couple of bucks. There are two versions, both work about the same: 90126-08046 or 90126-A0008. It has the m10 thread for the block side and the m8 stud for exactly what you are doing. If you torque the stud down in the hole it will bottom and get a nice solid connection before you put the sensor on and torque again.

You can search around the internet and find some good sound files of recorded knock, listen with the same headphones you intend to use in the car and get familiar with what knock sounds like, you'll learn the difference between it and valvetrain/mechanical noise.

Lol, I just found that a Google image search for the part pulls up a pic of my studs:

It's < $3 at the dealer. I wouldn't have even thought to bother with eBay, if you found it you'd likely spend more on shipping.

I'm using one of the two that are in my pic above with no issues. If you bought the same part number yours should fit too (and I can't think of a single fastener on a Toyota that isn't metric. You may have something else going on.
