Rod bearing clearance b18c1
oem new spec is .0008" to (i forget)
all rod bearings gauged at .0008" with standard ACL's
Old man (68 yr old, honda mechanic for 45 years) says its okay.
He mentioned he built a motor and that it wasn't nearly impossible to turn over on the stand, since then, 100,000 miles have been put on the motor without a hiccup.
this motor is for a buddy. I would really hate to see it spin a bearing real quick, but I don't know.
Thoughts?

Re: Rod bearing clearance b18c1
yeah i think .0008 is the tight end of the factory spec for nonvtec's. if they were all .0008 consistent i would order a set of acl hx's. i really wouldnt run anything less than .0015ish and i see no reason to be above .002 unless its a super built, higher rpm and power engine

Factory manual states that the main journal bearings are .0009 - .0017 and then the rod bearings are .0013 - .002, and with what Blackeg said, NON-Vtec rod clearance is .0008 - .0015. If you are getting .0008 with your new bearings have someone hone out the rods

Not trying to threadjack but can you explain a little more about honing out the rod bores to increase your bearing clearance?
I'm a little tight on my rod bearing clearance and I'd like to get another .0007 - .0009 to get my rods right at .018ish.
Is there a standard limit for honing rod big ends? How far can you go before crush becomes a concern? You lose some crush when you home the rods don't you?
