Is it ok to mix rod bearing halves for better clearance ?
(*I am using Eagle Rods and OEM Bearings*)
Is it ok to mix the ROD bearing halves (ie. green and yellow) to achieve the correct clearance specs? I know the service manual states its ok to mix main bearing halves but they say nothing about mixing the rod bearing halves???
My number 3 and 4 rod bearings are just a liiiiiittle out of spec (the crushed plastigage strip was a little too wide) so I am thinking I probably need to change just one half to one size thinner (Yellow). Does it also matter which half goes in the top or bottom half?

Typically, rod bearings will say on the backing whether they are for the top or bottom of the rod.

Ummm I don't think that is correct, since they are sold individually and the part numbers are not different for a green top bearing or bottom bearing just different manufacturers and colors / thickness ...

No unless you take them to a machine shop so that they can be weighed and balanced cause each rod that comes from factory comes wieghted and balanced as a balanced assembly I mean if you take the other 3 rods and whigh them they should not be more or greater than 4 grams apart from each other if they are they must be shaved a bit at the bottom and where to shave thats where the balancing comes into play
