Default 98 civic remote start help

Ok a buddy of mine installed an alarm/remote start on my car a few years ago. Everything worked fine for about a year 1/2 then the remote start slowely stopped working. Now it wont even start it just clicks and the lights on the dash come on but will not start. Some one told me I might need a new battery but have not had any other power issues with the car other than the remote start not working. I am about to pull the alarm and install a new one crimestopper 2016. Before I do this I want to figure out why the remote start is not working on the alarm that is in the car now. Also Is there anything about this year civic I should know when hooking up a remote start?

First is it the CS-2016.FM ot the CS-2016.DP?

What kind of alarm/starter is in the car now, [make and model] How was it installed, were all the connections soldered or did you buddy just use "quick connects"?

It sounds to me like it's an install problem, [wiring/connection], I would need more info on exactly what happens when you try and start the car. You will also need a multimeter to test things, [for troubleshooting the old system and for installing the new one]. 94

The new alarm is CS 2016 DP. He did use quick connects for the install. I have checked the wiring and redid some connections. After that I was able to start it but the next time around it didnt start. This was before it completely stopped starting. I will look at it in the morning and see what it is that is clicking and check it out some more so I can give ya some more details. I wil also get ya the model number. I do have a multimeter and plan to use T taps for the next install. But if best will pick up a solder gun from me buddy. Ok in the morning will get more info on what it is doing during starting.

Oh jeez... T taps are not the proper way to install, but best of luck to you...

Also, when you "redid some connections" did you relearn tach? Is tach even hooked up?

The "T" taps are probably the problem in the car now, an unsoldered connection will start to oxidize right away and at some point will get so bad that no, [or not enough] current can pass through the connection, leading to problems like yours, even at the best a "T" taps connection has very little contact area, and should not be used for anything except temporary connections. 94

Ya I will go with soldering the connections this time, you are right. Well the tach is not even connected properly. Thats what I get for thinking my buddy new what he was doing. I am just going to pull this one and install the next one the proper way. Just found the cd rom you can buy on here for all sorts of installs. Looks good gonna have to get it. Any one else have it? But I do gotta give my buddy some props since the alarm has saved the civic twice from getting stolen. But if they where true professionals they would have had it.

Off topic from my first post. My alarm system CS2016 DP did include one relay. Is this a spare relay for connecting extra options or is it needed in the install. I have looked through the book and the only connection I might need it for is the dome light I think. But I am not going to worry about the dome light since I have an aftermarket head unit and the shop that installed it hooked up me dome light. But with all my other connections I do not see a need for a relay so far.
