Default D16Y7 Build

I know the D16Y motors spin bearings because of oil starvation, but does anyone know where it starves?

I got a free Y7 with two spun bearings (I can show carnage of wanted) and everything short of the crank, con-rods and oil pan is in great condition. I have a D16A6 block taken apart and its the exact opposite, the cylinder walls are shat on but the conponents are great.

The D16A6 crank oil ports point straight up while the D16Y7 crank oil ports are about 30-40 degres away. The D16Y7 botom carrier thing is also all aluminum while the A6 one is part cast iron. The D16Y7 carrier has larger oil ports than the A6 but that means more volume and less pressure right? So if you run a Y7 low on oil it doesn't have the volume to support proper lubrication.

What I'm trying to get at here is can I put a A6 crank in the Y7 block and have a good and strong combo? Thanks, Brad

Anyone know? I'd like to get on this build but I don't want to if its going to be weak.

Im in the same boat. From what i just looked up a z6 crank is better the y7 has one oil port at each journal(where the rod meets the crank) which will be worst for your motor then the z6 being it has two per journal. The a6 im not sure.

You will get more information on d-series.org. Y-series oiling issues are notorious and have been solved with a ported oil pump.

Yes you can put an a6 crank into the y7 block. Same for a z6 crank. But I do prefer steel girdle of the a6 block over all other single cam blocks which have aluminum girdles. The biggest issue with the y7 / y8 is the single oil hole on the crank journals. Every other single cam has two oil holes per journal , with the exception of #3 main . The oil pump housings on all single cams need work regardless.
