I want the ride to be as smooth as possible. I'm not going to buy any coilovers just yet. I've heard eibach makes pretty good springs. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Eibachs are great springs, H&R are good too, I have just upgraded my suspension to the Eibach pro-kit with Koni Sport shocks. Great looks and handeling.

I'm glad this question has been asked. I'm new to the forum and was going to ask the same thing. I'm based in the uk with a Euro spec ITR and have had my eyes on the Spoon progressive rate springs (-20mm) and the Eicbach units, as well (-30mm).

What differences have people noticed with the Spoon units over the OE springs? Have they made high speed cornering more stable? As that is where I find the ITR to be less confidence inspiring with my style of driving........

spoons are a BIG drop.. I'd say 1-1.5".. not 20mm.. at least not on RealTypeR's car..

If the factory handling/suspension on the ITR is debated to be one of the best handling front wheel drive cars in the world, why do you people mess with the setup. The only thing I can see that you may get from it is the "lowered look." Im not saying that this is true but, it may be possible that by adding springs/coilovers, you car might handle worse. I know that for the s2000, they tested the eibach and some other good springs and foudn that both times, it made the handling worse than the stock setup. Also, you incounter so many problems when lowering...1. scraping and bottoming out. 2. people with CAI have a better chance of getting water in the engine. 3. you need to get struts and a camber kit in order for the tires to wear evenly and so that the factory struts dont blow. 4. You get a stiffer, bumpier ride. This is just my opinion. I had an SI with springs and all it did was cause problems. With my type R now, I am very content with the the handling. I just bought a set of s03's and I am thinkning about putting in the mugen rear sway bar. What are other peoples opinion on this topic? Thanks!

For what its worth, I have the GC/Koni setup and feel that its just too stiff for street use.
It would be great for track use or if you really needed to change the ride height regularly.
However, the Koni shocks are noticeably better than stock.
My recommendation (what I'm going to do this weekend) is put the stock springs on the Konis.
With the Koni sports you can adjust the ride height to some degree (it has 2 perch settings).
My guess is the ride comfort will be closer to stock, but the cornering will be improved slightly.
The factory suspension IS set up well!

Actually the suspension will react very slowly casuing a fairly harsh ride and poor performance. Adjustable Dampers are designed to adjust the damper to the spring rates and above or below depending on if you want the suspension to react slower or faster. What rate GC's do you have? If they are semi-high you probably exceeded Koni's low max spring rate. I run 450front/600rear springs on Bilsteins and it rides fine, not too harsh and not bouncy... obviously the ride will always be a little harder with increased spring rates.

The ITR does have a nice suspension from the factory, and most people on this board can't outdrive it, so my suggestion is to stay with the stock setup as well.. there is no CHEAP way to improve on the R's handling.. the cheapest would be GC's with custom rates and bilsteins (sorry, I love Bils) which would run you < 1,000.

The mugen is 26mm or 24mm isnt it? It may cause some oversteer when its that large over stock

Personally I love the stock setup, but if you want to lower and improve the handling id go for spoon springs, although a bit pricey.
