FD gears and 17 inch wheels

FD gears and 17 inch wheels
I running N20, and many have said not to run a different FD because i would rev up much too quick, and have severe traction problems.
How would it be to run 17 inch wheels with the JDM FD setup? Would the wheel/FD combo make for a more balanced setup, like the JDM R (16 inch wheels + FD)? I plan on getting some 17 inch wheels in the future, but I will not get the JDM FD unless it will be beneficial to me.

Re: FD gears and 17 inch wheels (TypeR1558)
the size of the wheel wont really matter if the outer diameter of the tire doesnt change... by using lower profile tires on larger rims you can come close to keeping the stock diameter, therefore not really changing anything

Heres a couple of tools to help you with both wheel/tire combos and Transmission Gearing and FD's:
http://www.autocrossing.com/cgi-bin/gearcalc.cgi
&
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Now you can figure it all out for yourself, Good luck!

PS I wouldn't worry about a different FD and you making too much power, how much are you spraying anyways? If traction is an issue then deal with it, get better rubber, stiffer motor mounts, Z10 traction bars, and if need be a better LSD...

Re: FD gears and 17 inch wheels (1GreyTeg)
thx for the link..
i just compared my stock RE010 with toyo FZ4(205/50)
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
195/55-15 4.2in 11.7in 23.4in 73.7in 860 0.0%
205/50-15 4.0in 11.5in 23.1in 72.5in 874 -1.6%
Grrr. My R is putting 1.6% more mileage than with stock RE010's
So bigger rims with taller tire will save some mileage.. is it worth doing this? lol
