i just bought a 1990 integra rs. it has crower forged rods and je pistons. it smokes(a little) and makes a ticking/knocking sound somewhere in the bottom end, i think. Someone in another forum told me it was the rod bearings and that i need to do a rebould. I just want a second oppinion because i hope i didn't get ripped off buying the car. please help. anything will help.

if you are really worried, get it checked and if it need to be replaced, connect the owner, you got it from. if he or she/ refuse to pay the repair fee. get a laywer. i believe whiten few weeks they are supposes to take care of it. wait for more reply. hope its not a major problem.

thanks. the bill of sale said as is. no warranty. will that effect anything? the owner told me it was running fine and that the smoke was from the pistons not expanding as fast as the block because they are forged.

If you are worried about a spun bearing, change your oil and look for flakes of goldish metal in your old oil. It might be something simpler than that though. If it has high compression pistons, you should be running premium unleaded.

if it is the rod bearing do i really have to rebuild the whole bottom end or can i do something else. the guy i gought it from said the motor is a swapped b18a1 with only 20k miles on it. should it be having any of these problems if it really has 20k miles on it? was i lied to?

this is a high possability, i don't want to be an ***, but in the end you truely don't know what is done, has been done, to the motor. so it could have been sprayed the **** outa, fucked, then sold. id get it looked at by a professional and contact the original owner

i changed the oil and there was no metal flakes in the old oil. the motor has always ran good since i bought it. the only thing is the sound the engine makes. if something was seriously wrong with the motor would it still run good?
