Default where is the temp. needle suppose to be?

i have a 94 ls 110k all maint. performed.

question: where is the temp needle suppose to be on my car?

where it is at now: it never passes the quarter mark. (cold side) sometimes even lower?. i guess its better than overheating but is something wrong?
Or is the car just run real cool?

so wher should it be?

I noticed that my temps were a bit lower than normal when my thermostat went out. They were steady for the most part, but just a bit too low.

I'd just put in a new thermostat and gasket. Cheap insurance, especially if you think your gauge is off.

yea i think i may put a new thermo state and gasket in becuase it does not really stay steady at the 1/4 mark on the cold side.

thanks

it was probably stuck opened, when my thermostat was stuck opened, it takes FOREVER to get to normal operating temperature

You mean just like the pic above ^^ ? Totally normal.

An aftermarket thermostat may cause the temp needle to be alittle different than stock. The condition of your temp sending unit could cause variation also. You want the temp needle to be between 1/4 and 1/2. Too cold isn't good because your car may always run in open loop running off rich maps and vtec will be disabled, and too hot isn't good either for obvious reasons.

My GSR is stock and it's always been like that too... normal being at 1/4 (cold side) and it never goes higher.
Could the needle just be messed up? Because the car is fine.

get a new thermostat from napa, its probably the oem one still in there.
My car did the same thing. Sometimes it would warm up, then while driving it would drop back down to cold.

Its a bad thermostat, change it and you should be square.
15 bucks for a thermostat, 10 bucks for radiator fluid.
