Question about VTEC timing...
Ok so I have a '94 GSR, bone stock, and as noob-like as this sounds, how do you know when VTEC engages?? I know VTEC on my B18C1 is supposed to kick in at 4,400 RPM, but I only hear the "deep throaty growl" kick in at about 6,000 RPM...Is that whats supposed to happen or should the actual "deep throaty" sound kick in right at 4,400 RPM?? Basically is the change in engine sound the indication of VTEC doing its job?? If this isnt clear enough, let me know- I'm trying not to sound like an idiot lol. Just seems like the true pull/sound kicks in a little late, but maybe thats normal. I have no experience with GSRs.

yes, this "change in sound" is vtec engaging. its not a dramatic pull like somethin u'd expect from turbo. i barely feel it on my friend's DC5 (type-s). it does sound cool whenever it screams, Veeetaaaak!!!! haha its vtec, the "mechanical" turbo--as they say...

the b18c1 has 2 vtec actually. first one should come in about 4500-5000(mine kick in at 5000) than around 6ish k you should hear the secondary one. also known as butterfly effect i think.

A stock b18C1 will have VTEC operate at 4400 RPM. The IAB (intake air bypass - secondary butterflies) will operate at 5600 RPM. With the dual stage intake manifold and the non-aggressive cams, the VTEC operation at 4400 RPM is barely heard. On a properly tuned engine, the VTEC operation should not really be felt.

Respond to lv6l's post for that one, not mine.

your vtec crosses at 4400, that sound at 5750 is your secondaries opening.
