LS intake manifold on GSR head
My friend bought a car thinking it was a regular GSR (kid's dumb...). Well, when i looked at it, i noticed the block code was b18b. I called the guy up who he bought the car from and he said it was an LS/vtec.
The car is much slower than what an ls/vtec should be, so im actually doubting this car... the manifold is an LS and was wondering if this was possible, to put an LS IM on a GSR head (im guessing he did it for money purposes?), or did this guy just some how throw a vtec valve cover on an LS block?
im really confused with this car and what to think about it. Your imput would help my friend out a bunch. Thanks
Ryan

Re: LS intake manifold on GSR head (tegasaurus)
a LS IM would not fit on a GSR head unless you do some modifications, because the holes for the forum wont line up correctly. if its ls/vtec, find out with head it is, B16 or B18.

You're probably confusing it with a first generation b16a intake manifold or even b17a intake manifold. They all look VERY similar. If its a VTEC head and the flange of the intake manifold does not look rewelded/redrilled or tampered with, it is a stock manifold of one of the above mentioned types.

I'm actually now recalling the head had the code pr3 on it, if htat helps... as much asi know about vtec (limited, im a non vtec lover), that stands for the b16 head... yes? or is that just the code for vtec or seomthing... im still lost and confusing myself more.

Re: LS intake manifold on GSR head (tegasaurus)
PR3 is the code for 88-91 non-OBD b16a's, aka first generation B16A's from japan. When LS/VTEC's are done they typically use the intake manifold that came with the head, and in your case everything sounds just fine!
Here's a quick pic of that I pulled from an eBay auction.

Re: LS intake manifold on GSR head (teg92)
thanks a bunch teg92... one more question
Since the head is a non obd (pr-3) head, what ECU should he be running or does it matter?
thanks.
