Help with Apex VAFC controller.
My buddie has a 92 GSR (i/h/e) and hes using a V AVC controller. He got it with the car and doesnt know how to use it.
First. Is it possible to turn VTEC off? He said its turned off, but everytime i drive it, around 5500rpm it sounds like a bomb going off.
Second, On the display it reads " VTO OFF" what is that? Does he need it on or off?
3rd, Where should he set his VTEC point? The car feels pretty slow for what it is. Could it be the settings on the controller?

Vto off just means that vtec is off till you hit it at what ever rpm you have vtec engagement set at what I would do is I would set it to:
5300rpm L->H vtec engagement
5800rpm H->L
and I would make minor adjustments to your fuel settings throughout the whole rpm range, when I say rpm range I mean 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000....etc.
Now I wouldn't lean it out too much unless you go to a dino or have a pritty good a/f gauge so you can monitor whats going on with hour fuel system....

yeah..... it's REALLY easy to lean out your engine and toast it if you don't know what exactly what you are doing when tuning. I'd suggest a good A/F ratio gauge and a good EGT Gauage for use when tuning. And don't go and just set yours the way you heard from someone else. Altitude, climate, gas, etc... play a huge roll in the settings. It's cheaper to have it tuned with the right gauges or by the right person than to replace your engine.

actually.... The A/F gauge is accurate enough to use for tuning prior to about 4500 RPM's.... then you should pay more attention tot he EGT gauage.
