HELP! 95 gsr, RPM CLUSTER JUMPS AROUND!
my RPM tach jumps all over the place. Could it be a bad tach? where would i start to trace the issue? Never used to do this, i did replace the DIZZY cap an rotor, i do have a MSD set up. An a VAFC2, Vafc has never shown me any issues ever, had it in for almost 1 1/2 years! My car runs fine. just stupid freakin rpm tach!
Anyone ever had this happen? What was the problem?
thanks
i did a mad search an did not find anything.

mine was doing that and eventually got bad enought that i started detonating. after replacing cap and rotor and plugs and wires as well, it was the bearings in dizzy gone bad, got a new one from this guy on ebay called distributorking for 155 shipped and it has authentice japanese parts and the igniter module inside is rated for -+ 100 degrees over stock and that fixed the problem. it could be igniter module cause i replace it also and it fixed for about 2 days and started again.

thanks for the info. I do have another dizzy its just not the one thatcame with the MSD set up. I could just try that.
An when my tach bounces around it dose not cutt out. runs ok. Like i said, my v-tec controler shows my RPMS an works great but my tach on my cluster just goes bonkers...

can anyone shed light on this? Same thing here.
I replaced my whole dizzy. after about two/three days, my rpm needle did the same thing. it jumps when it wants to.....
My car doesn't bog, misfire or anything when this happens either.
please chime in.

I have not had a chance to really try this yet but i think i figured out what the issue is. If you take off your cap an rotor all the wires that conect to the coil ect. on my dizzy are kinda lose. I herd that Cleaning up those conections an looking for any think that would cause a messy conection will cause this issue. Try that yo!

it's the internals of the distributor, whether it be the coil or the module (connections or the parts themselves)
to the guy who was talking about his bearing, you would hear thing thing squealing like a 5 year at michael jackson's house if the bearing was bad
by the way, nobody calls a distributor a dizzy anymore

so you're telling me, my brand new distributor from Honda has bad internals? After about two days, my rpm needle started jumping around like it was on crack.

i KNOW you're NOT telling me anything. its a figure of speech bud. calm down.
my wires are all connected, and when I put the cap on, I made sure everything was snug. It is intermittent.
thanks dude.

Im gonna give you the same exact advice i gave someone else a few min ago.
Had the exact same problem a few months ago.
Heres what I want you to do:
1. Remove battery negative terminal
2. Remove distributor cap
3. Find ignitor. It is gonna be on the right side of rotor and is shaped like a backwards "L" thats been opened up to form an obtuse angle.
4. Once you have found the ignitor you will see 3 or 4 little electrical connectors (I forget exactly how many) they will have wires going to the ignition coil which is at the top of the distributor and has the longer piece that comes out with the little spring.
4. Now that you have established the ignitor and the ignition coil and you have found the short wires that connect them inspect the ends of the wires. They will have little rubber covers that cover up the female wire ends. On mine I noticed the green wire had one end that looked like the rubber was being burnt. There was brownish color inside the clear rubber little piece.
5. I took that green wire out and replaced it with a spare I had in a old distributor a buddy had laying around and no more problem!
6. I also went back and took small pliers and squeezed each femals wire end down some, NOT ALL THE WAY SHUT, just enough to ensure a tight fit on all the male ends sticking out of the ignitor and coil.
When doing this I suggest only removing one small wire at a time and inspecting so that you dont get confused or mix them up. Also you may need to remove rotor to access all of them.
Let me know if this solves your problem. It seems like alot from the book I just wrote above lol but it only took like 15 minutes for all this.
Goodluck!
