Default What OBD1 ECU to use?

Sorry if it's another FAQ. I'm currently prepping my 99 D16Y7 so I can turbo the SOB but at the same time trying to print out the hours of data I've collected ranging from installation and parts to collect. I've searched the archives already and I just want to make sure.

1. I'm trying to convert my car from OBD2B-OBD1. The question is what would be the best ECU to use for my car? Based on my research I concluded that an OBD1 5spd P06 since my Y7 doesn't have a knock sensor nor VTEC which is similar to the P06.

2. Can I run my car with the OBD1 P06 ECU for awhile until I've collected all the parts I need for the custom turbo knowing that the P06 ECU is for a 1.5L and a Y7 is a 1.6?

Thanks guys

I DID THE SAME THING! okay heres 2 things u have to consider

u need to swap over an intake manifold with a 2 wire iacv and rewire it to run correctly! (ull need the intake manifold and throttle body and iacv u can swap over ur tps and map sensors they will work fine....

u also need to put in 240cc injectors with a resistor OR get that ecu socketed and burn a rom in uberdata for 190cc injectors!

right now im running a p06 in my 99. the iacv thing is the only really major concern...

and yah its ok to drive around like that u wont damage anything if u have the right injectors in ( flow and resistance)

this is because d16y7 is the only d16 that comes with 190cc injectors as opposed to every other d16 that has 240cc ones, and also the iacv conversion is required because the p06 looks for a 2 wire iacv. a 3 wire one wont work unless u change the inner workings of the valve hahahahha

yeah I've already researched on the IACV fix and pinout connections on the B PLUG (for 99-00 Civic). I've already got those parts covered as well as the intake manifold. I'm just wondering how the stock P06 runs on your car? I've read on turbod16.com tghat some guy did the same thing to his D16Y7 and he detonates every now and then. Good info though
So can I still run the car with my stock 240cc injectors?

Any other guys out there who have done this to their d16y7 motor who isn't turbocharged yet? How does the motor run? I've searched some more and foudn this https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1072802 sounds like it's OK to run the P06 til I complete my kit but I just want to hear first from other people's experiences

i think that the detonation issue has something to do with the difference in base timing from the d16y7 and the d15's...

i checked the mitchell at work and it said that the base timing on my civic is 12 degrees, and p06's im pretty sure run 16 degrees of timing.....

so i pulled 4 degrees of timing all through my tables in uberdata, because i ve heard of issues where there isnt enough adjustment on the obd2 dizxzy to do it mechanically...

i havent expeiencnced any detonation
but maybe thats cause i was sloppy when i wrote m basemaps for my 450cc injctors and im running too rich....

oh well!

TURBO SOON! TURBO SOON!!

Great info, well I'm just gonna install a virgin P06 for now, it'll probably take a little longer for me to get it chipped so I can use uberdata or hondata on it. I'm looking more for people's experiences with it using an unchipped virgin P06. Maybe I'll just wait until I've already gathered all of my turbo parts. The only reason I want to convert to OBD1 now because I have a Y8 IM with the 2 wire IACV and I want to knock things little by little out of the way.

i drove around with the timin at 16 instead of 12, no problems at all but then again i was runing 91 gas in order to prepare for my turbo.

idont know how those 4 degrees will run on 87 octane gas.

so as fasr as the timing issue, ur okay on a p06 ecu.

but for fuel, im fairly confident that if u put in 240cc injectors versus the y7 190cc injectors ull be okay.

since it wont be chipped it will still retain closed cloop operation and part throttle will run off the o2 signals... so ull be okaly...

and hondas run rich anyways when the stock maps are being read for and im sure that it will make up for the .1 liter in displacement that the y7 has over any d15.

GO FOR IT ALREADY BRO!

b18bek is making me an LS ECU chipped for a stock d16y7 so I can run my stock engine with an obd1 ecu and have it rechipped when I'm ready for boost thanks yo
