TIMING question on a turbo B16A HELP ME
oK i GOT A TURBO B16. we put a thicker head gasket on the car to lower the compression. The car will start up but won't stay running. We can't get the timing right. Could the distributor cause this. If its not the distributor what else could cause this?

How much thicker of a HG? You may need a biger timeing belt
Call the Co. that makes the HG and ask them
DO you have any CEL's on?
Runing a check valve?
Waldorf I see I am right near you

2mm hg from inline pro. They said they do that setup all the time and they couldn't even get the timming right. Wouldn't they know if it needed a bigger timming belt.

do you have adjustible cam gears? you will have to compensate with cam gears, or the cam timing will be off.

Could this be the cause of the distributor even though my ecu isn't throwing any codes? We have tried just about everything but that.

ya, back when i did that trick i needed camgears, and i think i had to adjust them like 3 or 4' (can't rember which direction though) and your distributor runs off the intake cam so you need to check base timing and bring that back to normal too. but your stock (sized) timing belt will work, just make shure that the engine, cams and distributor are at tdc when you put it all back together.

Re: (88crxb16a)
when you increasw the deck height by using a THICKER HeadGasket you have to adjust the cam gears to compensate
you add 1 degree Advance in cam timing
for every .012" increase in deck height
a Standard 3 layer gasket is .029"
you say you have a 2 mm gasket
Therefore 2 mm= 0.0787401574
-
0.029 (the height of standard gasket)
= 0.0497401574 then divide this by 0.012 (to get the advance in timing )
=4.145001311666
So in a nutshell Advance your cam pulleys by 4.1 Degrees
let me know how it goes

Re: (310BHPB16)
if the car don't run i think you have another problem. i run a stock b16 with a 3mm HG without cam gears or some ****... just put the distributor 2° retard but that was only to avoid detonation under high boost because of shiddy engine management.
maybe you have some vacuum problems when you say the car starts but stalls imidiatly.
i can't beleave that it has something to do with the gasket or the distributor... mine was running even if i turn the distri. from one end to the other...
what did you change on the engine management or is it stock? where did you connected the map sensor? all sensors connetec? changes in vacuum lines?
