Default Stumbled upon this thing... B series billet cam tower girdle?

HitechledProducts.com | Welcome

I mean I understand the premise and it seems sound but honestly I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having issues with cam cap flex. Maybe someone turning an ungodly high rpm with serious cams and valve springs stiff enough to support a car but I don't see this being useful for 99% of people.

The main thing that caught my attention was it using dowels to positively locate it and the ARP hardware for greater clamping force. Great things for say, a track day/time attack car like I'm trying to build, but just like with ARP main studs couldn't that higher clamping force deform the cam bores?

Thoughts? This thing has me legitimately curious.

Lol totally forgot about that thread. It is a random thing to happen though.

I'm curious as to how tall it is. I really want to run one of those billet valve covers but from what I understand they are shorter in regards to height compared to an OEM valve cover.

My main question is what does placing this gigantic block of metal inside the already small volume of the cylinder do to windage? Wouldn't it pose some sort of resistance/turbulence to the blow by gasses and other things? Mainly the large surface area allowing the windage to cling to it and fall out of suspension back into the oil pan. Or am I over analyzing it?

You can always have it anodized a different color lol.

PS OBTCRV please go read my last post in OT. I needs the helps.

I was talking to Joe @ Locash when he was designing his new billet valve cover, and he literally cut a head in half to make sure everything had ample clearance. So as long as it isn't taller than stock oil rails I should be good. Looks sweet, just sucks that it would be covered up hahahaha.

Really it's not much bigger than the stock rails by the looks of it. The only additions are the center tie supports and the bridge on the right side (timing belt side). I somewhat have a hard time believing that the cam caps would flex in stock form, but who knows.

Oooh, I can't believe nobody makes a clear plastic valve cover yet!!! They have the clear distributor caps ans rotors, why not everything else! Come on, who is the the most riced out that will start a group buy?

Naw, but I don't have a starter, sorry man.

Clear valve covers have issues. First off, the inside would get coated with oil and you wouldn't see anything. Second, there's the windage tray, or splash tray, or whatever it's called in there. Third, melting. Fourth, discoloration.

1.) It... was... a... joke... but, I'll bite.

2.) No, most aftermarket valve covers don't have any baffling.

3.) No, plenty of material that could resist the temperatures seen in that environment.

4.) Potentially, ok how about Pyrex? (Another joke...)

It's unnecessary. There is a lot of load on a stiff spring, big cam, turbo car (for example), but the factory stuff seems to work great still.

^see that's what I was thinking as well. I would imagine that if someone had issues with the cam caps and rails deforming/flexing that there would be a much more serious underlying problem like something structural within the head itself. I understand the product and the logic behind its design, I just don't think the application is logical.

I do miss the carbon fiber valve covers, a lot. They were super sexy lol.

I like the idea. I would imagine this would come in handy if someone lets say diddnt have cam rails for there head for some odd reason and can use this as a alternative if anything haha no but seriously they claim it improves oiling within the head with less windage so maybe it does have advantages at least from what they claim.

I'm going to contact them and see if they have anymore photos. Mainly detail shots and shots of the support installed. I also want to see the underside because obviously when you eliminate the stock cam rails you're eliminating the oil supply to the cam lobes. I'm assuming that it retains the cam oiling system.

You could use aircraft paint remover and just polish your valve cover thats what i did. but I dont recommend polished the factory valve cover keeps a lot of heat out of the engine bay
