Default stock b18c turbo smoke high rpm

As the outside temp drops to around 20 degrees at night. I have noticed that my t3t4b 48 ar turbo is really not liking above engine rpm of 8000. never more than 8-10 psi running e85 id1000's. good afr's but if i take engine over 7500rpm the turbo smokes. I think i am spinning the turbine to fast and i should pull this turbo off and use on a b18b and get a better suited turbo for the higher rpm. or am i dreaminng an turbo is going to ****.

At 8-10 psi you're not spinning the turbo to fast unless you have a bad boost leak. Sounds like the turbo may be on it's way out. Never hurts to check the compression of your motor while you're at it.

let me add a little. the turbo will give me 12-14 psi at 4500-4800. very fast responding. so is my ebc then controling the turbine wheel spin by venting off with my external wastegate so the turbine isn't actually seeing all "what i believe is all the extra air associated with higher rpm. what i dont get is why can i do 10 psi at 6000rpm all day long and no smoke. still not ruling out rings shot on pistons either and btw no "catch can or extra breather" where are the places a person sees effects from no crank case venting. this all started with colder temps....

its probably something to do with the e85, remember that right now you are probably getting e70 instead of e85 which is causing your car to run rich. Also change your oil, mine started doing the same but it was just the temp change and the oil needed a change since the e85 had already killed it.

I would do a compression test first to rule out piston rings then focus on the turbo.

a compression test wont tell you if your oil rings are going out. the only way to find that out would be to take the motor apart and i dont think he wants to do that, lol.

I have original compression numbers somewhere. I will check again. have a lot of new parts for this winter. With the cooler temps i think boost comes on so fast anyway. i leaned out my boost tables after i looked at my data logs and plugs look good and now no smoke. thanks for input.
