Finally, the head is back from the machine shop. They took .003 off additional to the .002 that was already done prior. So i have just under .01 total between the head and the deck milled out. I had two ever so slightly bent valves, but no evidence of them ever coming in contact with the piston, so im not sure if the valves were bent from the bad guides on the old head and them being loose, or what. Running all the old back cut valves, and the two i had to replace had them back cut to match along with the 3 angle.
and heres a comparison of what i started with when i bought the head that was done by DFE, and what i wound up with after I was done cleaning it up. DFE on the left, my work on the right.
and....just about fully assembled, gotta make some cuts and splices on the harness to get it all tucked up nicely, and finish mocking up some other stuff.

Are you sure DFE ported that head? That certainly doesn't look like any of Dons heads I've seen in the past.

not bein a dick, but splitter way off center and short turn radius' don't even look touched. Just scuffed up. Thinkin DonF would do quite a better job than that.

and this one showing the sequence of porting from left to right, and then of course my finish work.
Only time will tell how it does.

It's so hard to make it out, its not even worth trying to take a pic, its a hand written invoice form with a stamp at the top right, its got everything from the specific dual springs, to the steel crower retainers and the brian crower cams that were ordered. The other receipt i have is from dover cylinder head which is for the clean up work which apparently was done after the head was ported. I know the vales were lapped by hand as well, not sure if thats a signature donf trait.

That porting job looks rough, maybe he just sold you a random head he had laying around that he worked on himself and sent you the receipt from the well ported head. I think I could do a better job than that with a 3/4'' chisel.

It's rough, but its not as bad as it looks once i was done with it, check some of the earlier pics i posted. I just wish I could have flow benched it, my friend never finished the new bench in time for me having to get this car back on the road. I know the exhaust side looks like ****.

Idk, not my business really. Although I've never even gotten a receipt from him for anything... Maybe he gives them out for local work or at request.
Lots of guys hand lap valves, I've done it once trying to cheap out....

I don’t think he would make up a lie about buying a DonF head, especially when nothing negative was said about the porting. Maybe this was Don’s very first head? Maybe the previous owner thought he could improve Dons porting with a jack hammer? It really doesn’t matter. We’ve all seen what DonF is capable of so there is no issue here. He bought a used ported head and cleaned it up, nicely I might add.

pm 00red_si and ask him about the fully ported and polished head he had done by don....then had to turn around and drop another grip of money and have it all fixed by somebody else or ask me about how i never did get my shortblock or money back from years ago....maybe one day people will learn

i follow the pattern with my fingers, so while the picture makes it look horrific, its actually only a small section of the front piece that is like that, otherwise the diffuser is straight. I didnt want to start taking alot of material off because i wasnt certain i could keep the ports the same shape trying to correct ALL the flaws.

1) You need the ITR throttle cable bracket...had to order it.
2) You dont use the phenolic spacers when mounting the fuel rail unless you have extended length injectors.
3) There is no provisions for the purge valve system, IE mounting and vac line.
