Re: Turbo LS
whats up guys ive been reading this thread for a while and im about to turbo my first honda. my setup is:
00 B18B stock internals 83k miles
gsr trans
blox cast mani
blox intake mani
precision sc50 .60/.63 A/R
tial 38mm
HKS SSQV (new design)
tunertoys 550cc injectors
walbro 255lph fuelpump
treadstone 2.5 inch i/c piping
treadstone tr6 intercooler
hondata s300
3" spoolin downpipe
3" custom exhaust
and all the other little things required for turbo... too many to list shooting for 280-300 whp
i was planning on getting arp headstuds, but i had a couplea questions for you guys because i really want this setup done right. sorry if theyre noob questions, but will the stock headgasket work fine or should i upgrade? also, if i dont need an aftermarket headgasket, do i still have to separate the head/block to install the arp headstuds? thanks

Hmm interesting, i guess you wouldnt have to remove the head but since your that close you might as well just do it to replace the head gasket. OEM headgaskets are fine, a lot of guys are just using felpro's

255 fuel pump bumped up my flow quite a bit, actually substantially over stock so it would be wise to have a retune for it.

Re: Turbo LS (ForceFed Motorsports)
but why would i run leaner at idle? doesnt make sense to me. i use to sit at around 16.0 untuned and now im at 17.0-18.0.... and half the times at part throttle im at around 17.0....

Re: Turbo LS (Jdmsolutions)
Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? Just curious. I was able to compare my stock readings to the ones after i installed the pump. Ill have to try and find them, also did a flow test.

Re: Turbo LS (ForceFed Motorsports)
no guage yet... thats on 2mms parts list.. im still just running a basemap. but it changes so much i dont understand... conditions could be exactly the same but a world of difference sometimes... the wot throttle stays the same regardless mnmosty but the part and idle are always changing

Interesting thing though, is that the plugs seemed to look fine.
Im assuming broken ring/ringland since i also have a good bit of smoke out of the breather.
Is the best option to snag a new longblock and throw it in?</TD></TR></TABLE>
so what happened exactly? how long was it running until it started to smoke ? or was it smoking to begin with.I think im going to purchase an AFI kit

Your running leaner at idle because of the increased fuel flow/pressure its causing more effecient atomization of the fuel. you need to retune the setup. Engines are weird. When i switched to my CTR cams over gsr cams my idle went lean and my boost WOT went rich. go figure

Hey guys in looking to boost my b18b here soon and still cant figure out what size turbo to run, I am getting rid of ac which will allow me to run different options and just looking for around 250hp and a fun DD nuthing serious. Would like to boost around 4000rpms but not die out before hitting redline. A friend said a small t3 turbo or one that has .48ar and .48ar compressor sizing but If you could help a fellow ls member out I would greatly appriciate it.

Re: (b18bc3po)
t3/t4 60 trim with a small turbine housing or a 57 trim with small turbine housing. if your only going for 250 that is. otherwise get a .63 a/r turbine housing
also a straight t3 super 60 will kick *** on the street for 250hp

Its been smoking for a long time now, but the oil consumption is getting pretty bad and Im tired of not having things right, so i finally got around to it, lol.
Ive heard good things about AFI's work

Re: (aaroboost)
trying to get a kit together, but not sure what size turbo i want/need yet. I would like to go with a gt35r but i just dont think the head is up to par to allow that much air early enough in the powerband.
maximum boost sais to have your boost threshold to be aprox. 1/3 of redline. For me thats at around 2400 rpm (stop making power at 7200 / 3) but its also a shitty powerband cuz of the running lean at higher rpm. But for boost, wont the redline be slightly higher? From looking at all the dyno plots on evans-tuning most of the 35r setups start spooling at around 2500-3000 rpm.
anyway, figure a 8k max redline with 402t's and a worked b18a head with a "total average flow of 85.8%" according to this flowtest chart.
so ya, its sorta gt30r vs 35r along with figuring out what size housings to go with. Im more into the mid/top end power (ability to take the expletive off from a cruising speed).
I suppose everything meantioned above is also going to depend on what manifold i go with, exhaust sizing and all that bs. Ive been looking at some of these packages from sponsers. Such as a ramhorn manifold with a dumptube and something else for like a little over $1000, almost sounds like overkill but i dunno.
