LS Crank and GSR block...WHY & HOW?
I've been reading about this for a while now, but can't really find any information.
Why do people use LS cranks in their GSR block builds? What are the benefits? Is there any negative affect?
Does the block have to be machined in any way to make it work? Do you still use GSR main bearings? LS rod bearings? And last...LS rods or GSR rods?
It's going to be a complete build...sleeved/cp/pauter for my Si. I just picked up a GSR block yesterday.

The advantage is the increase in displacement thus an increase in torque just about everywhere. The negative effect(but really is a nonfactor) is the extra side loading due to the rs ratio but again, its a nonfactor as the change is not that significant.

I thought there was some sort of increased torque....</TD></TR></TABLE>
yes you get a bigger stroke and more torque i would just run a ls block and sale the b18c anyway if your going aftermarket pistons you do not need the oil squters most eliminate them anyway and you can sale the b18c block to buy a b18a/b and save some cash for your build but if you do end up using the b18c block and need a ls crank we have them in stock for 100.00

+1
no external oil lines. no drilling and plugging of holes. basically an lsvtec done the right way.

ls rods also. Like everyone said before, extra torque, displacement, stronger due to the girdle, and cleaner since you don't have to run external oil line for LS/Vtec conversion.

Re: LS Crank and GSR block...WHY & HOW? (Muckman)
I got the block + type R crank pretty cheap. I didn't want to run oil lines...and I wanted the girdle without having to buy an aftermarket.
I'm going to end up sending it to GE to be sleeved over the summer sometime and build it while I continue to try to blow my piston/rod b16.

But yet, this is the "True" ls/vtec

It's not lsvtec anymore, this is known as a stroked gsr.
