Re: Knock logging questions (94hatchvx)
I believe crome will log knock if the knock board is present. The p28 has no knock board, so it won't work with that. Even if you log knock, the stock knock sensor only works in closed-loop mode in low-load conditions (cruising, idling). It doesn't work at full throttle since it is a simple unit and there is too much noise for it to handle at higher RPMs. I don't know of any honda tuners out there who tune with a stock knock sensor, if at all. They're really only used to detect bad gas so the engine can retard timing. The only reason I'd even try to tune with a stock knock sensor would be to get better fuel efficiency. Detcans work well for street tuning because you are using a highly-advanced computer (your brain) to discern knock from regular engine noise.

Re: Knock logging questions (blinx9900)
Knock sensors are not well agreed upon. Some swear by them, others have sworn off them. I just searched around to see if anything had changed, and it really hasn't. There are some devices out there that claim to be super-duper knock systems (J&S Safeguard is one I know a lot of honda guys used to run), but the fact is that it's all in the tune. Knock sensors aren't really used when tuning, most prefer det cans or plug reading (both of which are much easier to do on a dyno). So if you get your car tuned well with no knock on a dyno and always use premium, then you will be fine. If you're street tuning, just start with the ignition map that's appropriate for your engine, retard boost by 1.25 per psi, and tune your AFRs until you can get to the dyno to do the ignition.
If you're really paranoid about it, then you can install a J&S or a Knock Link light that will light up when it thinks you're detonating, but even these systems aren't 100% accurate. The J&S for instance can be fooled by the noise from the VTEC crossover, so it uses an input wire to know when VTEC engages.

Once upon a time people would look at there sparkplugs and magically tune their engine some how, sound unrealistic to me.

not my tuner, i know for damn sure he logs knock/ign/af/load/rpm/tps/etc...

But if your knock sensor gives off bunk data, what is he actually monitoring?
Again, engine ears, detcans, whatever other name they want to go under. That is what you should be looking into.

Re: Knock logging questions (94hatchvx)
The p28 doesn't have the knock circuit board. Honestly, it isn't that important unless you have bad gas in your area, or a bad tuner.

well were pretty familiar with what my knock graph looks like at this point, he knows how much noise is normal and whats not, it just comes down to experience i guess, he always told me up to 2 volts is usually noise, which is true cause if it was knock my motor would have blown a loooong time ago.
