p28 ecus don't have a knock sensor board.
The factory b series knock sensor is not very accurate.
There are much more effective ways to listen for knock including knock ears/det cans etc.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced commercial, knock detection system that Works well for B-series?

I personally find that on a angine with stock pistons the OBD1 knock detection using a P72 and s300 works very well and protects the engine from damage.

The J&S Safeguard works well as an added form of knock detection and control as well.

P72 specifically or any OBD1 ECU with a KS, i.e P61, P30, PR3...

Use a knock board that is tuned for the sized engine you have. A P72 is the only one that is tuned for a B18, all the others are for B16A or B17A.

KnockSense is more affordable and works better than any OEM knock processor or sensor. It doesn't have audio, but it's a great safeguard device and is still useful for tuning.
