Re: (SOUNDEFFECTS)
an indy turbo is too big.
indy cars are still turbo'd to this day.
older f1 cars were turbo'd in the mid-late 80's and ran as much as 60-70 psi in qualifying..i think it was more around 40 psi during the race.
most of those motors were in the 1.5L range pushing over 1000 hp!
just get a t3/t4.

Re: (Raped-Ape)
F1 cars in the mid/late 80's, with 1.5L turbo engine, put out about 1500hp in qualifying trim. This was either in the form of a BMW 4 cylinder or various V6 setups, including Honda. To get these astronomical hp #'s they ran crazy gas (toluene or some strange brew with that in it) and NO wastegate. They just let the car boost its brains out.
These engines only needed to last a couple laps...1000hp per liter doesn't last for long.

I think you are right. F-1 is Michael Schumacher, the late Ayrton Senna, David Coultard, etc. et.c
IRL is people like Billy Boat. (and yes, that is a guys real name)

Sniff all you want. In the book "McLaren Honda turbo: A Technical Appraisal" it tells all about the late 80's McLaren Honda race team. They dominated the 1988 season by winning 15 of 16 races. Back then those cars were 1.5 Liter V6 engines that created 800 horsepower. with the help of 2 IHI turbos. The turbocharges engine was banned in 1989 because of the domination.
They moved on to a 3.5L V10 that was naturally aspirated and revved to 19k rpms.</TD></TR></TABLE>
ok you did nothing to proove that they run 4 and 5 bar......but thats interesting

Not true. Banned because the cars were too fast not because of of there domination. Up to 1500hp in qualifying trim as someone stated. They were 1.5 V-12's not V-6's. Now spec is 3.0, mostly V-10's and no they did not rev to 19,000 rpms, they are pretty close to that now. BAR Hondas have an estimated 900hp now.
Actually, if I remember correctly, back in the prime of Champ car/CART, they were running no more than .45 in/Hg which is how the boost was measured from within the cockpit.
True they dont measure in psi only in in/hg. 45psi of boost? someone must be crazy.

I have nothing to prove. Everything about those cars is in that book. It is a hard book to track down. But, for someone that wants to learn all about the overall good characteristics and what makes a good racecar, that's a book well worth buying. You might even find excerpts from it online.
People here will choose what they believe anyways. And it's not rocket science as to how they made 1000bhp out of a 1.5L engine. It certainly wasn't with 20:1 compression, all motor.

Good call on the reason for banning. I stand corrected there. Don't know what I was thinking.
I didn't say that they revved to 19k then in the 80's....I said 16k rpm. And that's not too far off. Most of the cars did stretch their engines out to 12-14k rpms.
BAR now is still simply amazing. Honda's all motor V10 mated with a good driver is atleast giving Ferarri a run for their money. Anyways...this guys question was answered. Good topic though

Re: Indycar turbo on an integra? (ScreaminTeg)
I really wonder if an H22 built to rev could spool this unit? I'd like to try it out for fun.
BTW, you can always change the housings around. Wheel trims too!
