Default Gap setting for NGK Iridium IX on turbo H22A

Just wondering what gap setting or what is the best gap setting you guys with NGK Iridium IX Spark Plugs have them set at on turbo engines? Are they a different gap setting since the plug in unlike a stock copper plug, etc? Car is a turbo H22A with MSD Igintion/Coil/Wires.

Im not a big fan of iridium plugs in a turbo car. I have always use a ngk 4554 in my boosted h22. Thats a -8 and with your ignition mods i would start out around a .28 gap and go from there. The more gap you put in the plugs the more power you will make but when you get to the point where you are blowing the spark out cuz the spark isnt strong enough to span the gap under such high air velocity then you need to gap it back down a bit. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your input - maybe I will give those a try and see what happens or maybe just re-gap the Iridiums since the spark is stronger on those too...

I use iridium in my car. These plugs should not be gapped. Just put them in right out of the box. They come pregapped.

Not trying to sound like a dick but do you really just "assume" the gap is correct on your pregapped plugs? I leave nothing to chance. I know it may sound petty but I would at least check to ensure the gap is uniform across the board.

The tips break off very easy.

gotta be careful gapping the iridium's.

technically every management i have seen requires you to run an iridium plug if you want to use NGK's and run anything colder than a 7.

my coils require me to run an iridium denso plug. they are difficult to read lol

Thats where I was heading with my next comment. I cant get a good read on the tips of an iridium plug.

Well my current gap is at .30 - do you guys think I should make it bigger or smaller? I was thinking .35 or so since they are iridium and I am using an MSD SCI Ignition...

I always gap my iridiums... They are fragile, but with a feeler gauge and some patience, nothing would be damaged. I find 0.025" a good starting point.

Interesting info on NGK Iridium spark plugs from a Supra site : http://www.suprasport.com/NGK-....html

BTW, I am using the ZFR6FIX-11 - is this the correct heat range for a 300Whp H22A?
