you tipically need a smaller turbo because you wont push as much air (vtec motors rev very high) and your tranny selection will be influenced by how high you plan on reving also

vtec heads flow better = more power pound for pound

tunning is different since there is no switch to high cam lobe on the nono vtec.. Much simpler to tune.

search for some dyno threads, you'll see most non vtec dyno plots w/o any head work fall off on top end, while the vtec dyno plots increase all the way to 8k+

Back to answer the origonal ?, the VTEC does pull and if tuned properly will make power all the way to and sometimes over 8k. The feeling that I can compare my turbo GS-R to is riding my old Suzuki 250R Quadracer. Boost comes on full at about the same point as VTEC is being engauged, it feels like a powerband from the 2 stroke. But thats just my .02.

SI{nce you said you were a n00b. The cars with Vtec have higher compression which mean s the tune has to be very good. High compression motors are more prone to detonation adn detonate easier. So a LS is less prone to detonation, but won't make as much power per LB of boost as the GSR does...or any VTEC vs. NOn-V
