Default ACT 6 puck clutch harsh engagement?

well i recently put in a act 6 puck unspring clutch with heavy duty pressure plate. act's website said it would have a harsh engagement, it did for about a day then now it feels like a normal clutch again. it isnt slipping i can grab gears no problem and i used to have clutch chatter bad and now it doesnt chatter any more. i can let the clutch out slowly with no problem. i know most wouldnt complain about this but i am just concerned and trying to cathc a possible problem before it gets any worse if it does... any one have any ideas as to why a this supposed harsh engagement clutch would feel so normal now and i have only put 700 miles on it so far.. i just started trying to use the clutch harshly yesterday

Interesting. I am getting ready to order this clutch disc soon. I have the extreme PP though. I am curious to see what other say that have this setup.

Did you get the flywheel resurfaced when you put it in?

i have the act XT PP with a 6puck disk and i get clutch chatter pretty much everytime rolling into first. and even shifting between gears a get a thud everytime it engages. i havent tested it out under heavy load yet because my motor is untuned as of now.

i also used to have the same disk but with a HD PP and there was practically no difference in pedal feel but it does feel like it engages a little harder now with the XT

possibly your left leg got used to the clutch real fast, and you can engage with little or no chatter now?

hey i went with the hdr6 also!!! i love it. I could wait to hear your feedback and just bought one. Mine engages pretty damn hard. The peddle pressure is not as hard as expected, but ok. I cant really slip mine. It is pretty much in or out. And it chatters some too. I let it loose for the first time yesterday and it grabbed HARD. something may be wrong. Ill let you know how mine is going. I only have 100 miles on it. I am almost afraid to dump it because its so hard.

I hate that clutch, I have it in my teg, it hits so hard that I have broken a stock diff, phantom grip, many axles, rear motor mount, and now when I go to the track I am scared to shift hard because I dont want to break, I want to get rid of it but if I go backwards in clutch performance I am afraid the clutch wont hold. I dont know why it would become weaker, mine is still rediculous.

it was the same way with my ACT Extreme pressure plate and 6 puck disc combo. at first, the engagement was very hard and the pedal pressure was very stiff, but, after a week and a half, it felt pretty stiff but, just not as stiff as before. the chatter subsided as well.

i called ACT and spoke to their tech department and i was told that i should drive it hard immediately after installing the clutch and to drive hard on it often to prevent the disc and pressure plate from "glazing."

well i just went out and crabbed a couple of gears lol. the clutch grabs hard. tires break loose at midle and top of 1st gear grab 2nd gear and tires keep spinning so i have to let off clutch to get tration again then grab 3rd nic and hard..

i noticed though at the top of the gears it kind of feels like a power loss i know i dropped compression down to 9:1 and havent gotten tuned i hope it because of this i feel the slight power loss at the top of the gears and i hope its not a clutch slippnig at the top of the gears.. what do you think

Go drive a car with a stock clutch, then you'll just realize that you've acclaimated to your clutch. People who drive my car stall out kind of frequently, and to me it's just a normal clutch.

yeah, you have to beat the **** out of a metalic pucked clutch

i had hdr6 in my old car and i loved it. we put a xtr4 in my friends h22 civic, with the CM flywheel it horrible, chatterd and enguaged all shitty like. we swaped out to the stock flywheel when the cm flywheel broke and its smooth and very drivable.

i asked the same question and they told me that once it has been glazed, it has been glazed. driving it hard afterwards doesn't do anything to help.

anyone know why my clutch would grab hard in 1,2,and 3rd gears but 4th and 5th gears the engagement is really soft almost cant even tell when it engages almost unnoticable.

i can grab 1,and 2bd gear nice and 3rd as well but when i get to 4th and 5th its like softer than a stock clutch....

i bought my si with a 6 puck and you do get used to it but when you get back to a stock clutch you will wonder if its broke or what. sometimes my car will bounce pretty nasty. sometimes it takes up nice and smooth. sometimes my knee hurts sometimes it don,t.

Nextel,
Ive got a Clutch Specialties 6puck unsprung with about just over 2000 miles on it now. When i firs installed it it chattered like a ****, babied it for about 400 miles and then did a couple of launches at 3000-3500 (just slowly engaging it, not dumping it) after that the chatter really cleared up, and it drives awsome now. I do notice something similar to wht you mentioned, 1st,2nd sometimes 3rd i gotta be kinda smooth with the clutch but with 4th and 5th engagement is bearly noticeable... i think its normal.

i also noticed that when launching... if i preload the tranny, i can pretty much eliminate any wheel hop and hook up really quick.

Hey nextel i feel your pain. I got the same clutch setup and now it doesnt seem to grip as hard. It still grabs and ****, but doesnt seem as hard. When i first let it loose, it seemed as if my tranny would snap in half. But now it doesnt feel as hard. Who knows?
