No idea what is going on with my f22b1... VTEC
Whats up guys,
I drive a accord with an f22b1, it is boosted but i am having little problems
I switched ecu's and am now running a p72 with my car on 450cc injectors, i got a basemap for it and the car runs perfect, so to speak. When i went to go tune the car the guy said that vtec is not working... i was shocked because wouldnt the car be running all bad and stuff, like it would bog and mess up at higher rpms. Since vtec engages at around 2400rpm on the f22. but it runs good.
maybe the ecu i got is a non-vtec, but wouldnt that mean the car would bog anyway since the head is vtec? my oil pressure is good, temperature is good and i also tapped wires a4(vtec) and d6(vtp) because f22b1's dont come with vtec pressure switches.
im just confused someone please help
any tips are useful

You have a GS-R ECU with a secondary runner PCB in the ECU. VTEC won't "work" because you have nothing "VTEC" to wire up to physically. Tapping the wires doesn't mean anything if there's no solenoid to engage, hydrolic control valve, or VTEC camshaft. You have an F22B1. No VTEC there, sir.
You would not have been able to use your F22B ECU, as this particular engine was for the 1997 Accord LX model (OBD2A). Your best bet might have been to stay with the stock ECU, (Depending upon its year) or go to a nice P75 LS ecu, or P06.
so.... No.. VTEC won't engage despite the wires you're tapping.

Here's more about your specific engine. what it has, and what it doesn't.

Good luck.

lx's come with f22b2 and ex's come with f22b1's

If your ECU doesn't have any label on the outside take the cover off and check the board. The board version and components on the board will tell you what ECU it is and whether or not it has VTEC components.
If you look at the grey connector on the ECU it should also have a barcode with the ECU part number on it.
Why did you tap A4? That is the VTEC solenoid signal. D6 is the only one that would need to be bypassed due to the 96 F22B1 not having a pressure switch.

Okay well i found out that i have a p06, it is converted to vtec btw so i know the ecu is not the problem.
and i tap a4 because d6 it simulates that there is full oil pressure all the time, so no cel and vtec works...supposibly, i think, i just read it online and since i have a chipped obd1 ecu, and the stock was a obd2, i thought it was nesscesary.
My vtec still doesnt work btw

What made the tuner suspect that VTEC wasn't working?
So your using an OBD1 ECU in an OBD chassis. Do you have a conversion harness? If so did you do this wire splice bypass on the OBD1 side of the harness? Because A4 on the OBD2 side is not for the VTEC solenoid, it's a fuel injector ground.
Do you have access to the basemap file?
How was it set up?

Yes i do have a conversion harness, and yes i did it on the obd1 side. a4(vtec) and d6(vtp)
And he told me vtec wasnt activating because i wasn't making any power, then we wired up the solenoid manually and tried to turn it on manually during the dyno, and still nothing

OK so if it doesn't activate with a direct power source then your issue is obviously with the solenoid. Or possibly the oil pressure to that part of the head. Have you replaced the solenoid or tried cleaning the VTEC filter since your dyno appointment?
Is this a head swap by any chance or complete F22B1?

Re: No idea what is going on with my f22b1... VTEC
I did acutally clean the VTEC filter yesterday and still nothing, but about 6 months ago i had to get a new headgasket and sent it to these crappy mechanics in hialeah.
I dont know, they could have changed my head without me now, i needed new valves and springs so maybe that could of caused it.
Also the solenoid is clicking, which means it is working.

Does your VTEC have the bolt/plug in place of the VTPS? If it does, you need to unscrew that bolt/plug and see if you can get an oil pressure reading from there.
