Hi, I bought a phearable chip kit with a pre-programmed chip inside from phearable.

I did the soldering by myself.

Everything was ok, except my idle was unstable and my car started to smell unburned gasoline. Running too rich maybe??

1 weeks ago, I had the idea to put a switch on J1 connector so ill be able to switch back to stock program easily.

The problem is, If I put it back to stock program, Check engine light goes on, my car idle at 1700rpm and cut off at 3000rpm

I try to check the check engine code, and the light doesnt blink at all.. it stay on , even if I put it back to race program, its impossible for me to check the code.. something is wrong..

help me please!!!

Your problem is with YOUR installation, we never recommend people attempt to chip their own ecus using a DIY kit without a lot of soldering experience!

Check to make sure your solder joints are not touching each other.
It sounds like you have a short in the ecu (two joints touching each other etc).

If you remove j1, the ecu should perform like stock, if it is not there is a problem with the ecu.

ok so I took off the chips from it socket and took off the switch on J1. Now my car came back to stock program. It works.. I dont know why if I leave the chip I cant go back to stock program.

Also Phearable I dont know what kind of fuel mapping you put on the chip but now that im back to stock my car works perfectly, no more bad idle, no more gaz odor and the car is more powerfull

ok new update. The chip doesnt make any difference for the problem.

As soon that I put 2 wires on J1 connector, the ecu starts working bad.. dont know why.. if I take off the 2 wires everything is good im back to stock program. If I jump J1 connector with a leg im back to race program. If I jump it with a wire it works, but if I disconnect the wire but I leave them soldered on the ecu it dont work.

My question is, Is it possible that I need special kind of wire for this application?

j1 is just a "switch" to tell the ecu to read the tune from the added chip instead of the stock program, you may have made a mistake while chipping the ecu

You do not need anything special at j1 except for a jumper wire.

It sounds like you may have destroyed a lead or two in your ecu.

If you improperly installed a chip kit into your ecu & the ecu is running in limp mode or malfunctioning this is the reason your vehicle is not running normal when j1 is jumped.

But I bought a new ecu and did everything good and now everything is working good :p

Btw mtber the chip you burned me still makes my car running way too rich I understand its very difficult to put the right program without a dynotuning :p

Glad you figured out what happened.
Concerning your vehicle running rich, is your check engine light on ?
If so, what codes is the vehicle throwing ?
What color wires do you have running to your intake air temperature sensor ?

Mtber, your chip make me loose A LOT of power. It was impossible for me to know before because I never went back to stock program and I change the motor in my car in the same time I put the chip inside (same motor b18b).

My car pull a lot more if the stock program is on, as soon as I put your program, my idle become bad (the rpm is doing something like that : 725 750 725 750) I changed everything to try fixing this problem (tps iacv map sensor injector), the problem was your chip.

Im very disapointed, your custumer service is EXCELLENT, but your chip is very bad lol.

I dont have any check engine code. My car with your chip was smelling gaz and idling bad. Everybody told me my idle problem was probably because i was running too rich. Also my car is slower with the chip.

So let me get this right, your car runs great on the stock ECU but not with the base map chip that you bought?

What tune did you request from Phearable? Was it for a stock b18b engine or something else?

its a stock motor with bolt on

I ask for, better fuel map considering my setup, launch control, cut off at 7600 rpm

My car runs perfect on my stock ecu, idle is perfect, no gaz odor, pulls like it should

with is chip on, car idle bad, gaz odor, pulls less than with my stock ecu.

So basicly I lost 1h30 for soldering + 40-50$ I dont remember the price, for nothing

No check engine light with or without the chip
My intake air temperature sensor I didnt change anything from OEM.
I still can go check if you really need this information but I changed the motor for the same one with less KM and newer, and I kept the same wire that were on the car from factory.

The chip in the chip kit comes with a basemap for your vehicle's setup.
Nothing replaces tuning a vehicle in person, but a basemap is an educated guess based off other tunes.

Try unplugging your evap purge solenoid when you are running on the OBD1 ecu.

I am not sure if you stock ecu is OBD2 or OBD1.. but see if that helps your idle with the chipped ecu.

Hi, I dont have any evap selenoid anymore, the car is obd-1 but the motor was from a obd-2 car (99 b18b).

I would suggest getting the car tuned by a tuner (or learning how to do it yourself). Basemaps are just a starting point and usually require a fair bit of tweaking to get them right, even for NA setups with bolt ons.

I tuned a b16a with just the regular IHE bolt ons the the other week, used a P30 basemap and the AFRs were out to lunch everywhere.

If you want more power out of your car, stop wasting time playing around with basemaps and get it tuned.

You're very lucky that mtber is a patient and diligent person.
