Default When dreams become a reality build

What started as a dream became is becoming reality. 3 years ago purchased a 2000 civic si that had a ls turbo setup on it. The setup was pretty jank, ebay turbo, intercooler help up with zip ties, bought the car is tacoma and on the way home from getting it, turbo went out, didnt care cause i had the si that i have always wanted. month later i spun a bearing racing a boddy on the streets and learned the hardway. cuffs and spun bearing. taught me the hard way so its only track now.next few months gathered up some money and yanked the motor, and a friend build me a built motor. Eagle rods srp pistons and all arp hardware with 450cc injectors on a sleeved b20 w/ ls head. rocked that setup on 10 pounds and could barely snap off a 15.3. With a ls open diff tranny

That next year i wanted more, told my tuner, hey i have bigger injectors (PTE 680's), tuner said you dont need those and turned up the boost to 15, car just wasnt feeling like full potential, gave the tuner one more chance to re tune or im finding a new tuner who i have been watching since i was in highschool. Tuner said no your fine so i said well im gonna try someone else.

Went to the new tuner (a1320honda) and told him my situation and he pulled up the map and said well... dont boost until you put those in and retune. so that next day he took it and did his magic. car ran amazing, didnt make it go much faster but felt so much better.

This year was time to step it up and go ls vtec turbo. found a b16 head that was beat with a first gen skunk2 intake mani. Had the head gone threw and replaced what needed replaced and had some supertech valvesprings and retainers put in. (thanks oneals)

Over the winter gathered everything up for the swap. Come spring i got the car up on jack stand and started on it, Here is where it got interesting .... got the motor out, took the head off and HOLY F***. the "friend" who made be a "built" motor gave me a yes sleeved b20 that had 9 cracks in the stock sleeves and when he put a block gaurd in chiped 3 chunks off the deck. You could say i was pissed, called the "friend" up and he had not expennation, come to find out that was one of there motors that cracked a sleeve and all they did was do a bandaid sleeve fix on it. You can pretty much guess im never talking to that scam artist again.

At this point i was lost on what to do, and was ready to give up. My Best friend steve (a1320honda), hooked me up with a bare block sitting around. honed it out and had all the built internals put in and the head back on. upgraded from the 680's to 1ks injectors, a janky ebay turbo to a hx35, ebay bov to a greddy type rs. cast drag mani to a ssautochrome twisted style, bigger intercooler setup. and put a action 2md clutch in it.

Not gonna lie was a little nervous when i first railed on it. ya it was fun for a bit..but still wanted more, did some looking around and decided to throw some gsr cams and a full 3in turbo back exhaust on it. thanks SMC and a manual boost controller. keep in mind i still have that ls tranny with the open diff in the car. Took it to the track a few time a squeezed off a12.1 on 14 pounds. was pretty stoked on how the car ran.

Which brings us to the last few weeks. i told steve look, i got the parts i want, i know the car has potential i wanna do work at the track. he said no problem you in good hands. he took my car for a few days and gave me back a monster..
We went out to the track tonight, did 4 runs and Finished the night with a 11.43 @ 121 with consistent 1.6 60' (1.67,1.66,1.69 and a 1.7 due to slipped the clutch) HX35 on 19 pounds, on safe conservative tune. the car is an absolute blast to drive. Who out there can say ya i loaded my slicks in the trunk, swapped tires, ran what i wanted, pack up and go home as your daily drivin car. there is so much more porential in the future. parts to come are ctr cams, victorx intake many and a b16 tranny.

Thanks steve and the crew!!

Sorry to hear your bad luck at the beginning of your build but glad you found someone out to point you in the right directions.

I got the manifold on ssautochrome.com, the only thing i had made was a small bracket from the bottom side on the t3 flang on the turbo to the block since a hx35 isnt the lighest turbo. lol

Here is what the car ran.. ya i was a little upset with myself for sleeping on the tree. lol the first 3 runs were all within 40 min of eachother. we let the car sit for a while with a fan on it for a while before the last run. Ill try and get videos up shortly

Run 1 (11.775@120.24) set tires to 8 pounds for a quick shake down

This car is still full weight with working power steering. Its on a small 23x8x15" M&H slick. Also stock open diff LS tranny. Just goes to show ya that just the right parts in the right places can get ya down the track. Were gonna try and make it out once more on around 23psi as this is on 18-19psi and still conservative on the AFR's and timing. Looking for a high 10. Maybe some race gas in it on 25psi and go for mid to low 10's. This project has been alot of fun and kudos to Bryan for sticking with it. Definatly has had some ups and down withthis thing but were on the right track.

Hard work usually pays off in the end.
It sounds like the case for you.
Now it's time to enjoy the hard work you have put into your ride.
What are your plans for the car in the future?

I would really like it to be a 10 second street car with the full interior. Talked to steve and there are still a few more things we can do before the year ends. otherwise If its in the budget during winter pull the motor and get it sleeved, cp pistons, either ctr or skunk pro 1 cams, victorX, will be needing bigger slicks(23's aint gonna cut it) and find a b16 tranny.

I also think a more efficient turbo over the winter would be good. That way we dont have to beat the motor up with a ton of boost to get the car to make consistent 10 second passes. Its funny how projects like this get out of hand...how many guys started just wantin a boosted daily car lol? Just earlier this year Bryan only wanted a low 12 out of the car. Now its just about low 11's and hes already wanting 10's. Next year....9's lol

Also gonna need a cage...no way around it!

You said it steve. never would have ever thought to have a car that runs like this. And ya a cage and more safety equipment will be needed next year.

What turbo are you thinking? be cool to be able to make the same power on only 15 pounds or so. The car hasnt gotten to out of control... yet.. lol

Just a quik update on how things are coming along. steve and i took the car to the dyno for some more tuning. we figured out that 11.4 pass was on 363hp. He worked his magic and got it to 393 out of her.
So we decided to throw in some race gas and see how that goes. needless to say i was satisfied. on 19 pound(same boost level as before) we took it to 466. decided to stop there being that im on stock sleeves and should be good for the track.

We did manage 466whp out of it but the 110 gas was just for safety. i honestly feel the car would be fine on pump gas but until Bryan builds a real sleeved motor hes playin it safe. Should have some updates friday.

Heres the dyno vid...and yes, we know there is a slight exhaust leak. Think one of the runners on the manifold is cracked.

Went back out to the track on the 466 hp, but just couldnt get the car down the track. It was still doing mid 11's. Car was on Crome and datalogging didnt tell me **** on the last 2 passes. Once he got the car to his shop and started tearing it down for the winter he found a couple of boost leaks and exhaust manifold leaks.

The car is getting some much needed improvements. Precision T67 turbo, precision 46mm wastegate, 3" charge pipes, new intercooler, hondata S300, and 24.5" slicks. So cr is gonna be a whole new animal this year and shooting for 550whp on pump.
