NHRA Leaves ESPN and moves to Fox Sports
So I am not aware if everyone has read the newest information about the NHRA and ESPN. Well this will be the Final year NHRA will be broadcast on ESPN. NHRA has signed a long term deal with FOX Sports that will broadcast 16 events over their networks. With this influx of new possible viewership, what does this mean to you as the racer and the fan? Do you believe because of the larger number of channels this can help the sport bring in more sponsors and or possibly trickle down to sport compact again? I understand that's being extremely optimistic, but maybe it can help us.

The agreement calls for FS1 to provide coverage of Friday and Saturday qualifying and Sunday eliminations for each NHRA Mello Yello Series event, with a minimum of 16 Sunday eliminations shows to be presented in a live coverage format, and the remainder shown either in weekend afternoon or primetime time slots. Four of those live elimination shows will air on the FOX national broadcast network.
ESPN treated NHRA pretty badly so I can't see this being a negative. It could always be worse though so it will be interesting to see how this works out.
NHRA needs to start pulling in more fans because they're getting close to not having enough cars in nearly all of the pro categories.

I agree that these 4 broadcasts can hopefully bring the exposure that the sport needs. I think it will be important that the NHRA makes sure promotion and even the announcers are on top of their game.
Should they keep the staff and cast or make a change?

Toyota doesn't have anything to compete with the upcoming DRCE 4 or the older MOPAR/Ford offerings . . . petition to drop displacement to NASCAR 358" and use those engines a la Australian Pro Stock or Pro Stock Truck?

I think some of the live broadcast of qualifying should be just taped delayed to show all classes. Nitro still gets all the coverage. The broadcast team has gotten better. I still follow Matt Hartford and hopes he gets some wins. Fox is better than ESPN, but not by much in my opinion. ESPN had some better camera angles.

Yea it really is difficult because of the overall time it takes to complete. That's always going to be the biggest issue with the sport overall. I agree that maybe they should do sportsman, like pro mod in giving their shows together. At least the semis and finals of those classes to promote those classes.

ESPN had better camera angles. I say its about the same overall. They air the stuff more than once and its not at midnight, which is nice.
