Default How wide can you go?

Switching from a 26x8.5x15 to a 13".

24.5x9.5x13 MH or 24.5x9.0x13 MT

Mainly will be ran at our local CMI events, and the track is known for not being the best prep-wise, so I want to do what I can to make sure it hooks as good as possible, given the circumstances.

Seems like 10" is the standard these days.

Section width on a 9.5 slick is 11.1". Any adverse affects going 11" on the rim? I know Miller used a 12" rim at one point few yrs back, but idk what the top guys are running these days. I understand you get more of a square-edged profile going wider, but any problems doing so?

Subscribed for this.

I'm looking at a 13x10 beadlocked wheel and I'm curious how the beadlock affects the width on a 9.0 or 9.5" wide tire.

Thanks!

Beadlock adds more width to the wheel I think another 1/2-3/4"

I've always ran a wider rim than the slick by an inch. If the slick is wider than the rim it will just cup and you'll lose contact patch

So on a 9.5 MH, 10.5 would be fine...

How about a 9 wide MT...would 10.5 be doing too much?

Look at rwd cars that go fast on a small tire lot of those guys run 10 in tire on a 12,13,14,15in wide rim, it's all about fine tuning the car. 9in tire will do better down low on a 10in wheel but on a 8 in wheel it will do better up top. You change the angle of the side wall and you effect the way the tire grows.

I run a 8.5" MH on a 9J rim with 20mm spacers. Works perfect!!

That is true. But, as you stated, the RWD cars have the advantage of playing those games. Our detriment will always be traction, not the top end, so we are going to go to one side of that spectrum which is stretching the tire for the most traction.

Is there a point where stretching a tire out for wider contact becomes less advantageous?

You end up with a squarer profile, and I'm guessing less wrinkle effect which would inhibit the bite when launching?

Ended up going 10.5" total width, including beadlock.
