How much power can stock B18B sleeves handle, crack one last night @ 20 psi
I Cracked a sleeve last night on 20 psi . It was my first time to crank it up that high. I run 14-15 psi daily and it loves it. I have JE pistons 9.2:1 comp 20 overbore. Eagle rods w/ arp rod bolts, ARP head studs. all assembled and machined by a excellent machine shop I trust. The block guard was installed by an idiot. so that could be it. Ive been told that stock sleeves can hold 20 psi every now and then. I using the S-afc hack with 450 cc injectors, and I have plenty of fuel, and its tuned fairly well. I guess it's time to go with stronger sleeves and suggetions and any ideas of prices, like darton sleeves with installation? I've heard of some of the sleeves having cylinder cooling problems any suggestions?
Thanks Justin
Thanks Justin

20 psi and afc hack, there's your problem! You had way too much timing for 20psi! Get a hondata, sleeve your block, and don't go through this again...

Are you saying that detonation caused it? I also had just installed a water/methonal injection kit. Could that have been it? I had my timing retarded. Thanks for the help Justin

afc cannot control ignition timing, so reguardless if your running no boost, or 20 psi, your ignition maps are the same...

Thanks for all your replys. First off I had no BTM, but my timing was retarded 12 deg. 16 when I turned up the boost. Second it was detonation, my new JE pistons had small signs of being torched on the edges of the valve reliefs. I just pushed way too much. I'm now wondering if I can even still use the block, and just have it resleeved with a darton set?

A friend of mine has a similar setup as you, but instead of the afc hack, he used hondata and 1000cc injectors. 24psi and 475whp.
His Setup:
LS/VTEC, CP Pistons (9:1) and 20 over, Manley Rods, Block Guard and he assembled it himself.

I would also like to add that going 20 over on stock sleeves then boosting 20 psi didnt help either,if your gonna run anything over 18 psi on stock sleeves try to keep it stock bore!

What kind of gas where you using? I've been running almost 360 whp on C16 with no apparent problems. Stock pistons/rods, stock sleeves LS/VTEC with a gangsta InlinePro style VAFC/FMU/RC 440/Holly 255 intank mickey mouse fuel setup. Timing is at 14 at idle with no btm.

wtf does c16 have to contribute? Lets get back on topic here. Hes not asking about what fuel you guys run.... Common.
For your sleeves, i have 'heard' more problems with cooling on guys running blockguards vs. sleeving the block.
Perosnally if i ever had a block sleeved it would get shipped off to GE.

Re: (blackeg)
backing blackeg up, i used to have a stock b16 w/ the vafc hack, ran 112 octane all the time, never had any problems, so if i were to have detonation, i was kept to a minimal. It never had striaght up 93 so i wouldnt be much of help with it. it had a t3 on 8lbs so i never pushed it more than that.

A local preformance shop who builds engines only uses GE, and their engines make alot of power and last a long time. I perosnally dont know anyone who's run into trouble eaither.
