Funny I don't get that feeling from him. We even asked for help with there boost controller and never got any help.

I have only had a few racers walk up and ask me if I have any questions when I've been looking over there car.

One story from Etown, I saw a racer ask a father if his young daughter would like to sit in her Scion. That was very nice.

Brian Fitzpatrick was another driver that took time to talk with me.

Last Fall when Ryan decided not to run the car on Sunday I made a point of standing out by the car and talking with the people.

I know there are times when the car comes first, but we all need to talk to the fans and try to give them the confidence to run there car next weekend.

I'm not sure how anyone up here even knew the BOTI was even running at New England Dragway a few weeks ago.I visit this site almost daily and read the drag section at least a couple times a week.I only realized the event was happening a few weeks before the event. When the track has "jet cars under the stars" or "night of fire" (funny cars etc...) I hear about it every day on the radio for weeks before the event.
I think the ticket give away is a great concept. It costs nothing to give a free ticket to someone that wasn't planning to go.For every free ticket you are going to get at least one paid one.No one is just going to go alone. And that's two more people buying ten bucks worth of food and visiting the vendor/sponsor tents.
Now that you have people you better have cars or they won't come back.If you need some filler than get some local fast cars of bikes to show up just for exhibition. If you let them for free they would be happy to show up.The local 8 second street tire car that was at the BOTI show kept people interested.

I remeber that. Julian was happy as could be. Rado took his time to go out of his way and stop what he was doing to go find julian a picture in his rig to sign for him. I got a picture of him standing in front of nase's dragter with the signed picture high in the air haha.

yes chris rado was very nice to me in e-town. most of the drivers just looked over me even some i wanted to talk to witch i didnt understand. but i go to school all the time talking about joe simpson and darren barone and rado so all my friends want to go and watch and hang out so if these series can hang on for a few years i will have a whole school of people wanting to go and watch. i think this is what this thread is about

it seems all the pfwd teams are really nice to the fans. i think one thing people are missing is the sponsors need to step up and help the racers out more and im not talking about discounts racers need money.its getting to the point where the street classes cost to much money for your average guy/girl look at how many sfwd cars are coming up fore-sale. sfwd will be just like hot rod in a few years at its current pace . the racers need goals right now there is know reward to go out there and run hard just more dept. happy racers =happy fans

bigger pay outs=more racers=more spectators=more sponsors=more payouts=cycle of life.....

BoostedJeff thinks the sport is for high school to junior college kids and street looking Hondas is what they want to see.. Ok go with that and I'tll be the death bed for sure.

If the market is SO demanding for that Jeff
why don't you gather some capital/backers
and start a Honda Drag racing series?
Jist like people went and started NMRA for fords

It was 98 degrees this past weekend? And hundreds of people/cars sweating and I even saw people from as far as northern Cali to Phoenix Arizona attend this meet maybe this is where the Honda scene is headed. Hey Ron we should just start riding bmx's again at least that sport is still going.

I know that in the dallas area, there is very little radio coverage when the import events come to town. I heard an ad on the radio for a recent event at a local track and when i went there were people there with alchol was as well so the people that didnt have much intrest in certain cars had something to entertain themselves with.(there werent that many fast cars) If there was an event for instance in ennis which is not that far from dallas then you would def think that there would be an announcement on the radio stations that are popular for the demagraphic not nessarily sports show advertisements but something.

Free tickets would be somewhat of a good idea if it was a small number like 50-100 an distribute them through the local shops that have loyal customers and reward them as such, or the people that have shops that want to get people to the events, again this all depends on the sanctionning classes to be able to get these to those guys in advance. We have interent whats wrong with printed tickets made with an approved code. I dont think there will be too many people trying to make fake ones.

Also it wouldnt hurt for people to be more friendly with admirers of peoples cars at the track, I mean if you show someone something thats on the car more than likely it will inspire them with something that they would like to do their car as well.
I understand that in between comp rounds in elems it wold be hard for the people/teams but when its slow and theres people walking around and you catch someone just staring at your car walk up and start a conversation with them, you never know they could take that little bit knowledge you give or exchange and make sense of it on their own build which in turn could put more cars on the track which im sure everyone would enjoy.

Also more people (fans) that actually commit to going instead of having excuses to not go the minute asked. Even if spread by word of mouth it doesnt do much go if the first thing they say when ennis is brought up is too far.... Maybe there could be a import vs dmestic shootout but one that has brackets for particular class cars 9,10,11,12,13,13,14? I mean i rember that being the reasin I got into imports in the first place, wanting to beat a mustang just to see the look on their face. Just my .02 sorry if so long

I have been told by NUMEROUS people who are customers or Joe's and Mine, and alot of the 16-21 year old spectators are there to scope out cars that they can relate with.

</TD></TR></TABLE>

Who would have thought it'd be so hard to figure out? If I want to see people who think they're John Force, I'll go see John Force. In the late 90's, the fans in the stands were with their friends who were racing, or people who thought they were one more paycheck away from racing. Import drag racing didn't start with tube chassis, that was a pipe dream pushed by the sanctioning bodies in their quest for Powerade type cash.
Meanwhile, everyones lost sight of the street cars that started it all and we can't figure out why the stands are empty. Keep it street, and keep it divisional.

I've been searching for the same solutions as everyone else and I have some ideas to help.

This weekend for the Maple Grove Lucas Oils Sportsman Series event (alcohol dragsters, funnycars, Comp. Eliminator, Super Stock, etc) they're having a promotion where the price for admission is $25 per carload after 3pm. They packed the place at the Lucas Oils event last year, and fully expect to do so this year as well. For your $25 you get:

Top Alcohol Dragster (cars in the 5.30's)
Top Alcohol Funnycar (cars in the 5.60's)
Top Sportsman (cars that run at least 7.99 et in bracket format)
Top Dragster (cars that run at least 7.99 et in bracket format)
Competition Eliminator (4,6,8 cylinder cars with either n/a, turbo, or supercharged platforms)
Super Stock
Stock
Super Comp (8.90 index)
Super Gas (9.90 index)
Super Street (10.90 index)

HUGE fireworks display after the event ends.

I feel like this idea could work for Sport Compact. We already know that we pack the place in Maryland, Florida and New Jersey. Ideas like this could help in areas where not as many people are prone to show up.

At the Virginia Motorsports Park Lucas Oils race a couple of weeks ago Napa Autocare Centers gave away free tickets to the race and the park was PACKED. They charged $5 to park and I'm sure they made some money back on concessions and hot dogs and soda, etc.

Another idea I have kicked around was "integration". This is what they want for us, anyway. They don't really want a Sport Compact series by itself because it wasn't succeeding. That's why they added classes for the pro cars from Sport Compact to fit into in Competition Eliminator. It might be worth a thought to try to melt our series into the Lucas Oil series. I'm sure it'll take a lot of effort and switching around, but it's something that COULD work if they wanted it to.

the reason is because eibach meet happens once a year. its hyped up for 6 months. its free to get in. its a big showoff and you know how alot of those show car guys, they just love the feeling of other guys jocking them and their car.

you cant compare the 2. actually if you went to last years NHRA pomona race, I'm sure there were more spectators at that than the Eibach meet.

There used to be a lot more event coverage in the magazines. And the cars that were actually at the races seemed to always be on the cover or have a feature in the magazine.

That is why we still remember all the legends of the sport they had a lot of features in the magazine. You saw there cars in almost all the magazines and that made you want to go see them at the track.

Now the magazines don't have as many features of the actually racers you see at the event. There are a few known guys on here that probably should have had a lot more features in magazines and yet they have only had 1 and some zero.

Sportsman alley was/is a great idea as well. It allowed fans to be up close to the racers and their cars. It also helps to have personable people in the sport. Some people guard their "secrets" and can't distinguish between a fan asking for help and advice or a competitor trying to find out what they are doing.

Honda-Tech should not be the primary means of advertisement.

i agree. thanks for understanding this moto.

BATTLE OF THE IMPORTS is the only series will be doing features in print media, period.

turbo magazine
import tuner
super street

all 3, all at the same time, for the love of drag racing. they will have coverage all year long..... check your news stands in june. support the cause, because we support you racers.

now you guys can have some print to show your friends and family what you do, and your kids when they grow up.

your in the military correct? can you carry a laptop to show your fellow soldiers your car or would it be much more enticing to show them you car doing a sick burnout in turbo magazine?

Also would allow members to have some proof for sponsors or when they are trying to get sponsors for their rides.

yes to being in the military and currently stationed in Japan

I tried to attend all the races in my area, whether I was racing, watching or helping my friends in the pits.

Look at IDRC...... with their DSPORT magazine they went from "DragSport" now to "DriftSport" I subscribed to that Mag because they are also IDRC and they featured Drag Cars. From SportFWD cars to SouthGate Auto's AllMotor CRX. And now they turned to featuring a bunch of drift cars and show cars from Australia and dyno pages of "earthing systems" on freaking 350Z's. I will not renew my subscription with them because they left Drag Racing.

I don't think twice about anything I say, they stiffed us this year, bottom line, and didn't have the decency to say anything about it.

Bottom line is that D sport can't make everyone happy for example they would feature a Evo this month and some readers would trip cause its not a Honda vice versa I'm sure they try to be fair to all readers that are into all different types of motorsports/car manufactures. By the way my car will be in there next issue and its a strip/street integra that makes well over 600 hp so I don't think D sport completely walked away from drag racing and hondas. Just my 2 cents
