Maybe a little to much cancer in the 83.
Since the weather was so nice out today, I thought I'd do a little work on the 83.
I knew she was rusty, but not this rusty. After interior removal:
Looks decent from 15 feet:
Now I'm not sure what to do. I didn't expect the floors to be completely rotted out. I don't know if I should spend hundreds (or thousands?) of dollars to fix a car that might be worth a few thousand at the end of the day, or part her out so that others can use her parts for their projects? I guess I'll have to get a qoute to see how much it's going to cost me to fix all this cancer.

That sucks. Me and my dad have fixed much worse though so it is possible, its just going to take alot of time and money. If you do decide to part it out though, i would be intrested in a few items.

No, I cannot weld. My father in law could teach me though, but after having him down today to check out the car, he says it's not worth our time for something so far gone. The rust is much more than even what I showed in those pictures. It's all through the subframing, around all the engine mounts, it's just everywhere.
I think I'm going to part it out. I'll be making a thread shortly, then everyone can post what they want and need.

Dude, that is a mega-bummer. That is some pretty serious rot. I couldn't tell WTF happened to the floor in those pics until I realize that strange pattern on the floor was the ground underneath the car. I'm sure it would be much worse too once you really start to get into it. It's a shame, since it looks so good on the outside.

Well, there may be hope for the car afterall. This Saturday I'm taking it to a local welder, who feels confident that there's not task to big or small for him to handle. When I told him "there's a lot of rust", he calmly replied "then I guess I'll have a lot of welding to do that's all".
Hopefully there's renewed life for this car afterall.

My personal mechanic had an 85 mustang drag car that he saved from a junkyard, it was 1000 times worse then that.
You need someone with the ***** and experience to give that chassis a new floor.
But I understand you think it might not be worth it, but its such a nice car!
