Default What diode to use?

Installing my alarm and totally forgot to buy some diodes. I have not idea what the application difference is between these two, which would be recommended or does it not matter or pherhaps neither?

1,000 Volt, 1 Amp rectifier diode HV
100V 1A Rectifier Diode
27V, 5W, Zener Diode

The voltage refers to the point at which the diode breaks down and current flows in the reverse direction.

You have avalanche break down and zenor breaK down.

Avalanche break down is detructive meaning the device will detroy itself if this occurs. Zenor diodes are specifically designed to allow current to flow in the reverse direction. The point this occurs is called zenor breakdown.

Stick fingers in ears and babble nonsense.

Just get some 1 amp diodes from Radioshack. http://www.radioshack.com/prod...earch
Striped side is negative (unless it's used for spike suppression on a relay).

Some people actually like to know what they are doing. Not all 1 amp diodes are created equal.
