Default remote start: by-passing the immobilizer

i have a viper 791xv 2-way lcd pager/remote start car alarm that will be going into an 2003 honda civic ex automatic. the vehicle has an immobolizer meaning the key is lazer cut and carrys a signal that is needed to start the ignition. now my concern is will i need any special key made or need to visit the honda dealer to get the key programmed so it will be compatible with remote start alarm?

if anyone has expierence with hooking up a remote start on their honda/acura that uses an immobilizer, please post your exp. with it. or if your an car alarm profession too.

thanks

You will need a "bypass" module, like these https://www.directwholesale.net/secure/

Also available from DEI and others, some need a key the better ones can be programed with the keys you have, all are triggered by the remote start, so your "transponder" keys work normally the rest of the time. 94

LOL... Lazer cut... That was good...

Anywho... As fcm was saying, you need one of two modules for that car... You can use a 556U, which is the universal bypass module. A spare (programmed) key goes in the module, and a ring goes around the key cylinder. When the module sees a ground (from the neg status out from the starter), it sends the signal from the encoded key (in the module) up a wire and to the ring around the cylinder, enabling the vehicle to start.

The second is the 555H, which is a Honda/Acura-specific module, which gets programmed just like a key. It's got a bunch of wires, three of which get interfaced with the keysense and data synch wires in your immobilizer system.

Either way, you need a module. Good news is a 555H can be found on eBay for peanuts... I got mine for $6.50. Now if I can just get off my *** and put it in, I can stop leaving the key in my ignition to remote start...

i did a little more research and i have heard that i wil be losing my immobilizer security which is a big downfall if i want remote start.

if anything, i want to keep my OEM security features (the immobilizer) and only add additional security such as glass break sensor, horn alarm, prox. sensor impact, 2-way pager, etc.

Well sir, your research is wrong.

Bypassing the immobilizer only happens during remote start. The bypass module is only activated when it receives a ground signal through the negative status out wire off the remote start, and shuts off when you deactivate the remote start, either by turning the key and stepping on the brake, or pressing the start button again (which turns the car off).

If you're worried about someone taking your car when it's remote started, then fear not. The system has a brake shutdown, so if it's remote started, and the brake is pressed (which is necessary to put it into gear), the remote start will shut down.

so techinically, im not losing any security feature when my car is on "locked/alarm activated" mode?

i was thinking the immobilizer would be bypassed whether car is on or off giving thieves the advantage. i was reading wrong

is this the only part i need to install this alarm? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...&rd=1

BTW JTTeG_X you are correct, "techinically" or any other way you do not loose any security feature, although as with any security device you will want to hide it well.

This is new to me, last time I installed a bypass they were using resistors. Never was an installer but always did my own stuff.

Sound simple enough. I magine there is a pickup near the key. So I would assume this transponder would need to be near the key. Sounds somewhat risky if the theif was able to find the transponder.

What is the range on the transponders?

The "transponder" is the car key, the 2 "bypass modules" available are "black boxes" that can be mounted up to 1.5' to 2' away from ign. switch for the universal one. [the one that needs the key] and anyplace for the Honda specific one, [the one you code], the universal one does require an "Ant." from the "black box" to be "wrapped" around the oem transponder pick up at the ign. switch, [thats what limits how far it can be installed from switch, however the Honda specific one does not use an ant. so it can be mounted almost anyplace.

And yea, oem immobilizers have come a long way since the resister embedded in the GM key 94

i called an audioshop and they said the 555i is for 01-02 civics. i got 03

they recommend that i invest into the 556H because its the most recent model and reliable. it also doesnt require to leave the key in to remote start the vehicle.

another shop said the 556U is also a great remote start transponder as well.

what you guys think?
556h runs 25 +ship on ebay

Use the 555H, the 555U requires that you put a key into it, so you would have to give up your extra key, or get another one at Honda and they can be $$$. Even if the 555H costs more by the time you add the price of a key to the 555U, the 555H is the better deal. 94

I have this unit now, the 556HW keyless transponder. I am currently trying to wire it all up correctly, but have a few questions...

The Yellow wire on the 556H unit...where does it go? It says it connects to the "data" wire in the ignition harness, but what the hell is that? Also, for the Pink and Pink/Black wires, am I just cutting the Ignition 1 wire at the harness in half and wiring it like that? Or are they talking about another ignition wire other than the one that sees +12volt when you turn the key?

I've done installs for a while now, but am a bit rusty and these directions suck. It is going into a 2003 civic auto.

Did you even look at the instruction sheet that came with the module?

All of the answers are in there, under the "Mode 1" diagram.

The wires you're looking for are coming off the transponder ring around the key cylinder.

If your worried about leaving the key inside the black box under your dash just grind down the teeth on it so it can not be used to start the car even if the thief gets the key out. Also if you wrap the 556U in duct tape realy well it would take forever for them to acctually get the key out of it. The once they did it wouldnt be much use they still would have to hot wire and break the steering wheel lock.
