I just picked up a 03 Accord EX-L with Navigation.

The navigation screen is blank. I can see the back light turned on, but nothing comes up on the screen. I have the OEM Navigational unit. The previous owner told me that it used to come on from time to time, asking for the navi code, however, it doesnt come on anymore.

Does anyone have any ideas for diagnostics?

If its intermittent I would imagine it was a ground issue that then became a short.

Possibly take it out and pull it apart to see if anything looks burnt.

After diagnosing my issue following instructions from the service repair manual, I think that my DVD drive is dead. The screen tested and is working properly. The ground going to the unit has a good ground, however, when the car is turned on, the ground no longer functions. I think something is shorted out on the inside of the drive. I pulled the drive all apart and cleaned every surface with rubbing alcohol. It did not help. I did not see anything obvious to say that anything burnt. I really like the OEM navigation, however, I might not be able to afford a replacement DVD drive. On ebay, the cheapest is $600

Try grounding the wire to a random pierce of metal. That may bypass the ground not working.

I tried that and it didnt do anything.
