Default JVC headunit display not working, help me save my sweet OG unit!**

Hello all, I have a JVC KD-LH910 headunit. It has an adjustable color scheme, and I had it set to match the amber bulb conversion I did to my EG dash lighting. Also, it was just a sweet headunit, in general.

One day, out of nowhere, the display stopped working consistently. It would just work intermittently. Then, the screen stopped working altogether. I tried the little "reset" button, all to no avail. What the radio DOES do is light up the faceplate buttons red, which stay on all the time (even when the ignition is off) and plays a CD I have inside the headunit, though I cannot control the volume or track or power, or any functions using the faceplate buttons. It just plays music until I take the faceplate off or turn off of the car. So, figuring something happened to the removable faceplate, I just purchased another one off of Ebay. That one didn't work also. Same exact issue was shown with that faceplate.

I've done some research on the issue, and others resolved similar matters by checking all of the fuses, as well as the connection at the battery. Seems a week power connection can cause headunit displays to not function correctly.

I have checked both of these. All fuses are good, tight terminals at battery, but I DID find a slightly corroded positive cable. I will want to replace that asap. I also checked the aftermarket and OEM radio harnesses. All look good, I soldered and heatshrinked every wire joint, so I'm doubtful anything has come loose there. All looks/feels good.

I'm wondering if the aforementioned positive battery cable is the issue...Or, is it something else? I hate to replace/trash the radio, as I feel like this as an easy fix. Maybe even a board that needs to be re-soldered inside the unit? I really don't want to take the time needed disassemble, so I'm trying all the "external" stuff first.

Obviously, I can just go to Wally World or Crutchfield and get a new unit. But, unfortunately, I'm quite fond of this one, and the older head unit is more period-correct for my build, I feel.

I'll replace the positive battery cable asap and report back once I've tried that. But in the interim, can anyone think of anything else?

Thanks!

First I would pull the radio and see what it does when you connect it directly to the battery. Pull the radio out, connect the red and yellow wires coming off the headunit together and then touch them to battery +, then connect the black wire to the battery -. What does the radio do?

If it powers up like normal, you have an issue with power getting to the radio plug. If it acts the same way, its an issue with the radio.

Out of curiosity, does the motorized faceplate still work?
