Re: EG Custom Sub Enclosure install? Anyone done it?
I really don't appreciate the sarcasm. That was completely unnecessary. I've tried Google. Most companies I've called have directed me to local shops since I would have to be dealing with fiberglass to get the curvatures I'd need. Other's have said it'd be far too expensive to make a single box instead of a batch order.
This thread is obviously for the purpose of starting a dialog among anyone who has done it or is interested in doing a project like this. I want to see other member's ideas. I'm also hoping by posting a thread here someone may have their own box they'd part with, etc.

Make it yourself. The learning curve may be a little long on some of the special cuts but for the most part Bass speakers are forgiving about enclosure shape.
I have made possibly the most trick sub set up in one of my DelSols and it is working well. Not at all your normal instal as you might see if you look into the thread I left here.

Tyler, this guy's worried about doing fiberglass and you post that. SICK fab but cmon LOL. If he can't lay glass chances are welding and metal fab is out of the equation.
Make a box out of 1/2" MDF and staple some foam to the inside. Done.

Re: EG Custom Sub Enclosure install? Anyone done it?
If I can avoid it, I don't want to compromise the spare tire compartment. I was hoping to have someone locally build me a box that could go into the corner of the trunk where the access panel to the taillight is.
I'm not going to be terribly picky about the shape. I'm mostly looking to drop a 10" speaker into something that will slightly conform to the wall.
That is a very cool sub you posted up!

Re: EG Custom Sub Enclosure install? Anyone done it?
Thank you
If you take the time to make a template out of cardboard of the face plate that the sub can be mounted to; then there are many subs available that will operate in that environment well. The cabinet will become the wheel well area and it extends into the passenger compartment through many port holes through the body. Mounting the face panel securely is up to you as there are many ways to make a good structural connection there. Just don't go putting screws longer than 3/4" into the rear window forward panel or you may hit the lift mechanism.
These free air sub installations work and sound well and operate over a wider range to suit many musical listening tastes. Give it a try yourself and be proud of your effort.
PS. Even if the face panel seems not to match the curves well you can spray instant foam from a can and trim it when it dries for a perfect seal.

I already own the subwoofer . It's an Image Dynamics 10". I have had it new for several months. I haven't even heard it yet because of all the work I'm doing to my car.
I'm going to try and make it work in the trunk. Hopefully the enclosure won't be too large!

Where are you located? I am in Pennsylvania. I have done fiberglass enclosures. It is the only way to fit a sub into a corner nice and tight. I have pics of one i did I will have to post a how to thread. But I am available to do it for you if you are located near me.

I live in Northern NJ. I kind of have a friend already who is willing to do a fiberglass enclosure. I'm about an hour and twenty from Easton PA.
What would your price be?

Re: EG Custom Sub Enclosure install? Anyone done it?
I've decided to mount the sub in the spare tire area. I'm loosing too much trunk space with a box in the corner. I don't want to loose anymore of the trunk.
I appreciate all the help you've all been offering me!
I'll post pictures when my install is done.

As promised........I'm just awaiting a few pieces and then we'll be installing a grill to protect the sub.

Re: EG Custom Sub Enclosure install? Anyone done it?
Why do you have to knock my install? I'm happy with how my car came out and that's what matters. Please, keep your negative comments to yourself. This thread was made for some friendly advice, not for people to come in here and bash what I choose to do based on my personal preference. If you don't like it, don't post. It's as simple as that. We're all hopefully adults here.

Not knocking..... Just pointing out that this thread started with one type of install YOU were looking to do.... Next thing ya know someone posts a pic of THEIR set-up and low and behold you did the same damn thing.... Like I said no one knows how to think outside the box......

Re: EG Custom Sub Enclosure install? Anyone done it?
The only sub install in this thread is where someone put a sub inside a rim. I didn't do that. The sub in the spare tire well isn't something new. This car only has so many places to put a sub and that's where it ended up.
I also didn't propose this type of install. It was the recommendation of my installers. I originally wanted a corner box, but ended up going with the sub in the floor because it'd take up less room. However, it was at the expense of loosing the spare tire. I'm still OK with this because I was able to mount the amp under the floor allowing for more trunk space. There isn't much room in the car to mount an amp without it being out in the open.
I mean, if you have some other type of suggestion for mounting a sub in my car I'm completely open to it. Like I said, I only saw two options; a corner sub box with the amp exposed, or the sub in the floor. The car is really limited with its space.
